he's also significantly better than the entire Florida Marlins team.

this is, by the way, why we need relegation in Baseball. if the owners of the Marlins are so cheap that they can't even come close to competing, they shouldn't even be in the league.

seriously, the Marlins have 33 players under contract for $21 million? their highest paid player doesn't even reach the league median of $3m? can you understand why major clubs resent revenue sharing with them? their share of revenue sharing in 2008 will probably be close to $35m, and they only spend $21 on players? if they don't sell a single ticket, jersey or whatnot, they already have $14m to cover other expenses? I'd be pissed off if I were the Yankees, Sox or Mets as well. The Mets' revenue sharing payment last year was $24m, more than the Marlins pay for salaries. the ownership is a disgrace.

He couldn't beat them single handedly, but yea .. from an individual standpoint, he's better than anyone they have.

i bet it'd be close. he's obviously the best of the deals, but from what I can gleam from this article, there are THREE players on the Yankees making more than the Marlins in toto the Marlins are at about 21.5M, I think, Jeter is at $21.6 and Giambi at $23.4. Obviously Giambi is a bit of a waste.

of course, the Marlins as an organization have a ring more recently than the Yankees (were any of these players there then?) so maybe something is right. two rings in 12 years ain't bad.

I hear the Marlins have a new manager, though, maybe he can get them straightened out:

4. Also, I'm not sure about last year
but 2 years ago, the Marlins were the most profitable team in MLB. They made around 43 millions dollars AFTER expenses, about 16 million more than the second closest team (LA Dodgers).

5. i'm sure it's still close
they have no real expenses, since they don't own their stadium. when revnue sharing outpaces salaries, every dollar you bring in is profit.

6. Um, Manny Ramirez Makes More Than The Marlins As Well
But that's okay. He's a Red Sox, and we all know that they're holy like the Roman Catholic Church.
