Cubs threaten to block view of games from rooftop clubs that don’t pay up
14 hours, 6 minutes ago

CHICAGO (AP)—Nothing obstructed the view of Wrigley Field on Monday from a pair of rooftop clubs whose owner has refused to share 17 percent of his profits with the team.

But if Tom Gramatis hasn’t paid up by the time the Cubs return home April 15, team officials said obstructions will be installed.

Cubs vice president Mike Lufrano said the team hopes it won’t have to do that, but that it’s unfair to other rooftop partners to let one rooftop get away without paying.

Gramatis could not be reached for comment.

Four years ago, the Cubs and the rooftop owners struck a deal after an acrimonious dispute that saw the team put up wind screens to obscure their views.

Rooftop owners agreed to pay the Cubs 17 percent of their gross revenues for the next 20 years.

1. I can see the Cubs view, so to speak, on this.
The rooftop people are making a killing -- yet some won't share 17 percent in exchange for no obstructions into Wrigley Field?

Talk about morans.

2. I agree....Typically I tend not to side with the corporation, but I can see the Cubs' take on this..
.... particularly since the other rooftop owners already are paying.

3. Paying 17% still means he has more money than what he had before...
And instead he'll risk losing it all. What an asshat.

4. Just means that owner won't be losing revenue from lost customers.

5. Is the view that great that it's worth it?
Are all rooftop clubs paying the same amount or is it based on distance and visibility?
