1. Yes they did
And Jayhawks across the nation are celebrating. We've been getting calls from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and California. My cell phone died fifteen minutes ago and the upstairs land line is ringing off the hook but we're glued to the press conference.

How's your MIL?

2. Hello My Friend
I recall those calls back in 94 when the Hogs beat Duke. My Navy Buddies wore me out.

My wife called this morning and my MIL had a good night. The doctors have stopped poking and prodding on her and she has been resting peacefully and her breathing has become easier. (She's in the hospital because of lung problems.) My wife and her two sisters spent the night in the hospital lounge. She said the hospital sounded more like a sports bar last night then a hospital. Maybe all the raucous jocularity was good for the patients.

I proudly put our Jayhawk flag out front this morning. For superstitious reasons I didn't put it out earlier. Lordy I haven't been up that late in a long time but the game was awesome. What a great diversion. Thanks Jayhawks. I think I'm getting a ballcap out of that game.

All the best My Friend.

5. I am so glad to hear that
about your MIL that is. Back in '96 my mom entered the hospital with a lung infection. That's when they discovered she had stomach cancer that had metastasized throughout her system. I remember well all the poking, prodding and the respiratory therapists trying to get her to do her breathing exercises. She got so frustrated one day that after the respiratory therapist left she said she wanted to take that little ball out of the contrapion and do something to the therapist with it. She was in a lot of pain.

LOL, I know all about superstitions. With about five minutes left in the game and the Hawks down, I called my brother who was in the Alamo Dome. Then I called his girlfriend who was with him. We've called each other during every game until last night. With five minutes left I realized we had to keep the streak going and that's when I started making calls. Here's how it went: right after I called my brother the Jayhawks started coming on. By the time I finished talking to his girlfriend we were up six. When Memphis got ahead I called my nephew, who, being also being superstitious was on his way downtown where he was Saturday night. As I was telling him he was a good boy, Mario sent us into overtime. My nephew got downtown and called me. I told him he was my golden boy and let him know that the Jayhawks looked like they had just won. He let out a hoop - no pun intended-, promised to be careful and said he'd call me today - just like he did Saturday night.

My husband also told me last night/early this morning that I probably should take off the clothes I had been wearing since Saturday night's game and wash them. He said they had done their job and it was time to "retire" them. ;)

3. I wish I could find the column/story saying they'd be the first #1 eliminated...
...congratulations. Tough for Memphis, but a great game.

4. Some Carolina fans are calling for Roy's head
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78#s=78&f=1410&t=2326184&p=1

btw, there were a number of stories out there that predicted the Hawks would be the first #1 to be eliminated. So much for what analysts (with very few exceptions like Bilas and Gottlieb) think.

6. Talk about fickle fans...didn't he win it in 2005?
Talk about short-term memory loss. Yeah, they were favored to win it all, but sometimes another team just is meant to win.

9. Yes he did
He won with D'oh's recruits. In fact his team faced Bill Self's recruits at Illinois under Weber in the 2005 championship game. Talk about a domino effect. All in all, Bill Self is showing himself to be the better coach and recruiter. Bill emphasize defense first and offense second. That makes for a better foundation for wins.

And now you know why, among the KU fans who understand and appreciate the game of basketball, that we didn't hold a grudge against Roy. And why, many of us weren't upset when Roy left. Roy, to many of us is a pathetic kind of guy who just wants to be loved. He really showed that by not accompanying his team, which had just gotten the biggest beatdown in their history, back home. He had to stay to in San Antonio and try to be part of the KU team.

The Carolina four corners game will win about 80% of the time and Roy is happy with that. He'll have a good winning percentage and it makes him feel good. It is what he was taught and because of his need to be loved he was doing what Dean Smith taught him. KU didn't need a carbon copy of another program. We wanted to be known for our own program. The thing that KU was missing during the Roy years was the defensive game. We've got that with Bill. So, like I said before, the UNC game wasn't about revenge, it was about KU basketball and rebuilding our legacy and basketball tradition. That's what real KU basketball fans wanted in a coach and that's why we don't wish Roy ill and why we weren't upset when he left.

7. Those predictions were pretty close
but I predicted they would be the fourth number one seed to leave the arena. Its a good thing Memphis didn't have to play Davidson earlier in the tournament. Just a little shiv twist this morning. I'm feeling my oats.

10. I'm right there with you BOSS
Davidson and Memphis gave us the best games in the tourney. I'd venture to say that the best team in North Carolina is Davidson.

btw, did you know that Larry Brown's first job was at Davidson? He never actually coached a game there but it was his first basketball job. And, of course, let's not forget that Calipari got his start under LB. KU basketball and our coaches have touched a lot of programs. I love me some KU basketball.

You've got to see this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYC3HaUOU_o AFH during last night's OT. I watched and lost it when the band starting playing.

8. Didn't care who won. Not a fan of either
But a GREAT game nonetheless. Somewhere in Lawrence, Kansas, Mario Chalmers is being hailed as a hero, and rightfully so. Congratulations to the KU Jayhawks and their fanbase.

11. Thanks,
My Jayhawk roots run deep. I'm a lifelong Jayhawk. My ancestors were among the town founders and the original Jayhawkers. I was born in Lawrence while my dad was a student there. My dad was recruited by Dick Harp, who took over the program after the great Phog Allen was forced to retire. Dad was married with three kids at the time - I wasn't born yet - and was getting ready to graduate. He practiced with them a few times but never wore a Jayhawk jersey, that honor went to my little brother. My little brother (6'10") was recruited by Larry Brown and ended up playing JV ball under Mark Turgeon. One of my older brothers also wore a Jayhawk jersey on the football team. He had a football scholarship at KU and played on two bowl teams in the 70's.

I'm a lifelong Jayhawk and I haven't been this happy since 1988.

Rio is the man and deserves all the accolades he gets. He showed a lot of poise.
