Who picked the Detroit Tigers to win it all this year? |
|
They are now 0 and 7. Their worst start since 2003 when the lost their first 9 games en route to an AL record 119 losses.
I'm pretty neutral on the Tigres. But I'm sure no fan of Jim Leyland.
BTW, I actually am a bigger fan of the Royals than the Red Sox. Could it finally be the Royals year again?

1. They're frontloading their losses |
|
awesome idea.
Tigers will be way ahead of the Royals come the 162nd game of the season. Go ahead. Bookmark. But we are talking the AL so its not really that significant is it?

3. I bet you still refer to the AL as the "Junior Circuit" |

It's just seven games. Leyland has done a great job of rallying the troops before.
But as a life-long Cleveland fan, I'd very happily accept the possibility Detroit is overrated.

Actually my favorite AL team is the Athletics. I pronounce them Athel-etics. They were my first team in Kansas City. I loved them in the 70's after they got good and started wearing white shoes. I got real excited when Marvin Davis tried to bring them to Denver. Oh well.

6. They'll be fine....especially once Cabrera starts hitting. |

The Yankees were in a horrible funk last year, only to come back and make Boston nervous at the end.
It's certainly shocking that Detroit is 0-7, but there's no way its record is indicative of the team.
And Cleveland had gotten off to a so-so start. It's not what you would call a powerful division.

Some people say that money doesn't necessarily buy rings, but there is nodoubt that the chances of winning are much improved when a team is in a healthy financial situation.

The Tigers might have the best batters in baseball when they're all healthy, but they have pretty questionable pitching, and absolutely no bullpen. They shouldn't have gotten Renteria, he's a good player, but Jurrjens was one of their top pitching prospects, and at the very least could have shored up a very questionable bullpen. Fernando Rodney's not going to be a bad closer, but he's injured with no set timetable for recovery. Its basically the same with Zumaya, who might never regain his 100+ mph speed. If they get above .500 by the All-Star Break, they can stand a chance because nobody has established themselves in the division, but unless they acquire a decent reliever (which would mean giving up way more than he's worth since everyone knows the Tigers are desperate) or call up Porcello (which could be a huge mistake), they're screwed.
