I'm a big Yanks fan, ever since reading a biography about Lou Gehrig. I'll always be a fan of the team Lou played for his entire career. We're hurting this year though. So far, the pitching has really been sub-par and all the decisions the Yanks have tried so far (Joba the other night for example, Hughes, Kennedy) have backfired. The AL East is much better this year and I don't see the Yanks getting a playoff spot this season at the rate they're going. Any thoughts? Yankees fans only please, I don't need to hear from haters. Thanks in advance.

1. There are a few of us Yankee fans about. |

Thoughts on the season so far.
Ian Kennedy had 6 starts and 4 different catchers, same with Phil Hughes before he got injured.
Kennedy may not be more than a 4th or 5th started and I am worried about Hughes durability. I still think not moving those guys & Melky for Johan was the right one from a philosophical pov but the results hurt right now.
Wang has pitched well even when he does not have his best stuff. Mo has been as dominant as I have ever seen him. He looks like he did in the 2nd half of 1999, simply unhittable. Joba will do fine once he adjusts to starting. Andy & Moose have done what was expected of them(Moose more so). We also have other young pitchers like Rasner & Karstens.
Our problem this year has been offense as much if not more than pitching.
We've been missing Arod & Posada for stretches. Bobby(who is emerging from a mini slump) & Johnny(though Johnny is killing the ball lately) started slow and Jeter has been in a mini slump since getting hit on the hand. Cano again has had baffling early season struggles while Melky has been solid though not necessarily spectucaular at the plate. Matsui seems to have really settled into the DH roll and with the power of the Stache, Giambi has climbed into a respectable batting average.
We were in a worse position last year against a stronger Boston team(and make no mistake they are the ones to watch, forget about the Rays).

You raise some good points, and even though Boston's (ugh) the one to watch, I think Tampa will hang in longer this year than they ever have. Toronto might also. I think Baltimore will fade.

I moved to NYC in '89 and began watching baseball games more frequently...99% of the time it's the Yanks. Seen some grrrreat seasons in these 19 years!

5. I work with a big Tigers fan who's from Detroit. |
|
You can only imagine how he's feeling these days.
What's Detroit's payroll? About 160-million for a 10-games under .500 team, while Tampa and Florida and Oakland are doing better?! :wtf:
