3. You simply can't take a break in training and expect to perform at the same level |
|
Regardless of what your level was there is no way to maintain it without continuing the planned course of training.
I learned that in my second marathon and we have seen it with football teams having too much time off.

8. probably....but this sounds so wierd, I have to ask |
|
yesterday, story on yahoo said that Dutrow was considering giving BB less electrolytes on the advice of Frankel - could the reporter possibly have that right? Or is there some reason that you'd cut back on electrolytes on a 90 degree humid day?
Not having any expertise myself, I'm most inclined to follow the more knowlegable here who say the horse just wasn't worked hard enough to get ready for a mile and a half. But that stroy really puzzled me.

9. That omitting electrolytes is weird |
|
And the other thing is that if the horse has any sort of breathing problems, the steroids would have helped in the 90 plus weather.
When I have poison oak in the summer and my doc prescribes steroids to combat it, my sinuses clear up despite the heat.

10. If anyone had an electrolyte imbalance in that outfit, |
|
it was Desormeaux. My half serious thought on the whole thing is that it was the rider who had heat stroke. Maybe a day of riding races in 90+ weather, wearing those helmets and those flak jackets might have made him a little weak and disoriented.
I wore those helmets every day for 37 years and I can tell you that in the heat, they are unbearable. Then in the mid nineties we had to start wearing those vests which in cold weather are great, but in the summer they make you heat up a lot. In extreme weather they sometimes made me feel like I was going to pass out.
And I doubt that story about Dutrow cutting back on electrolytes on the horse. No trainer would do that. Every horse at the track gets daily electrolytes and they are all behind fans in the stall to keep them cool.
Sounds like more bs to me.

11. Nobody is gonna make a change in a horse's routine or diet... |
|
like that before a race as important to them as the Belmont. They had enough problems with the quarter crack messing up their training schedule. What I do like about the story is that BFF Bobby Frankel takes the blame for BB's loss. Bawahahaha. Those dumb, greedy fuckin' bastards.

how very difficult it is for a horse to win the Triple Crown. Dutrow was foolish to think it was a forgone conclusion, Babe. Everything has to go just right and you'll need some luck too. You know, maybe it ain't our horses that aren't up to the task. Maybe it's that we humans just ain't the horsemen/women our fathers/mothers were.
Time for some sleep.
I have to pick up a mare and baby tomorrow. Our Stanley finished a very good 3rd last night a Raceway.
