1. I like that they have to be quiet when the players are about to strike the ball |
|
Let's translate that to other sports...
"Quiet please. Mr Garnett will now attempt two free throws."
"Mr. Beckett will now pitch to Mr. Griffey Jr, please maintain silence and refrain from using your cameras."

3. Reminds me of the comedian Brian Regan's bit on "chatter" in Little League. |
|
All I knew was that the coach would yell from the dugout, "Hey guys, let's hear some chatter out there. Let's hear some chatter." What are we, rabbits? If you don't know what chattering is, it's saying, "Hey batter batter." I don't think I ever felt like more of an idiot in my whole life. I'm going "Hey batter batter, hey batter! Hey coach, is there a point to this?" What is the batter going to go, "Hey fielder fielder"? It's ridiculous. Are you going to apply that later in life? "Hey lawyer lawyer! Hey lawyer lawyer! Sue! Hey bus driver! Drive! Shift, bus driver, shift! Hey golfer golfer! PUTT, golfer PUTT!"

I love his bit on science projects, and how one kid always has a model of the solar system. "The big yellow one is the sun!" :D

7. That is one thing about the movie "Hoosiers" that drives me crazy |
|
(though I love the movie). When the kid was shooting free throws, the crowd starting making noise, jeering, trying to distract him. I don't know exactly WHEN it became tradition in basketball to do that - I first remember seeing it at Duke - but it didn't used to be that way. Everyone would quiet down for a free throw, no matter which team. Certainly it must have been that way in the 50s. I don't see how the director could have allowed such an anachronism!
I like how they quiet down in golf, too. And Wimbledon!
