Terry Bradshaw admits using steroids in '70s
Edited on Tue Jun-24-08 05:58 PM by MaineDem
Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw admitted that he took steroids while playing football in the 1970s, according to several reports.

Bradshaw said on The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday, "We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing. My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and I thought nothing of it. ... It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn't to get bigger and stronger and faster."

SN contributor Mike Florio writes on profootballtalk.com that the story of Bradshaw's admission has received very little attention despite the scrutiny currently surrounding the use of performance enhancing drugs in all sports.

Florio writes, "When Pats safety Rodney Harrison was popped last year for possession of HGH, he claimed he wasn't cheating because he was only doing it to recover from an injury -- ignoring the obvious reality that using banned substances to speed recovery from an injury is simply another form of cheating."

1. Has he admitted to taking stupid pills also?
Why is it that every athlete that has admitted to steroids use is claiming the "healing" defense?

2. Well it does seem that way, however he might be telling the truth
since steroids "can" and "still" are used to help the healing process among other things, in fact I was given them in the hospital about 25+ years or so ago when my asthma was flaring up badly.

4. I know...lots of people are given steroids for any number of ailments...
...but it just seems to me that when caught, this is their out. They probably all aren't lying, but they probably all aren't telling the truth, either.

5. Same here....
I used to get cortisone shots pretty regularly for my allergies. If they had steroid testing when I was in high school, I probably would have been banned from the JV golf team.

9. well, because frankly, it's probably right
come on, bradshaw was never cut like a serious lifter, that wasn't his game. but he did probably play with all sorts of nagging injuries, the NFL is a ruthless game, especially back then. there is nothing better for skeleto-muscular injuries than steroids.

10. Terry doesn't need pills to be stupid
I think it was Howie Long who said... "I think Forrest Gump was a great movie, but they should have kept the original title, "The Terry Bradshaw Story".

7. I am shocked that Senator Comcast hasn't called for hearings
Oh right. The Steelers are one of HIS teams.

Maybe Senator Kerry should return the favor :P
