The WNBA found a way to steal the headlines tonight |

There was a chick fight between Detroit and LA in Detroit. http://sports.espn.go.com/wnba/recap?gameId=280722003Detroit seems to be fight town.

It appears that Leslie threw a punch at Mahone and is now playing the victim.

2. Sparks Started It; Leslie Tripped |
|
I did not watch the game, but from what I have seen this morning on ESPN and everywhere else the Sparks in the form of Candace Parker started this with Parker playing ruffer than she needed to. Then Leslie tripped while the Shock's coach tried to break up the fight by trying to get Leslie to move away from the other players. So you are right Leslie is not trying to play the victim. I saw the interview in which she claimed the coach either pushed her or threw a punch at her. However, it is clear from the video that the coach never touched Leslie, at least not enough to push her down.
I am not sure this is getting them too much attention. Most of the ESPN channels are not talking about the issue. Maybe I just missed it, but so far the only channel to deal with it has been ESPN News. So what do you think this fight will do to the league?

I don't think it ultimately does anything for the league, though they must love the publicity.

I would like to state that I have realized that I made a mistake earlier today when I said the fight was started by the Sparks via Candace Parker playing harder than she needed to play. It was actually the Detroit player that bumped into Parker. So, the fight was started by the Detroit player.

6. When I heard about it, I thought "please don't be Detroit" |
|
The last thing we need is more bad press! Auto industry in the bin, mayor's going on trial, city council being investigated by the FBI, schools a mess with no one around who knows how to balance a checkbook. Then there's spectacles like this feeding into our bad rep. Man, it's tough here.
