First off--- I love sports. You obviously don't--- so it must mean that you were always the last one picked in pick-up games, hence your dislike for an activity that oh---80 to 90 percent of the populace loves.

2nd: I think it's kind of cool to watch the very best athletes in the world perform their feats in an athletic arena. I admire the special athletes like Tiger Woods, Devin Hester, Roger Federer, etc, just like I love a musical genius like Dylan, Lennon, Clapton, etc. Why? Well---- if you can't appreciate talent---be it the brilliance of Al Gore, the music of Joni Mitchell, or the drop back pass of a Dan Marino, then you must be a comatose zombie.

Oh and as far as the "lionize" part of it---- wouldn't you think that it's a bit media driven?
