Tonight's OSU/USC Game Proves How Deeply Flawed The BCS Is |
|
OSU has now been blown out three straight years against top notch competition. The Big Ten should not ever be considered for the National Championship game.

1. OSU can't handle fast, athletic teams. |
|
Three years in a row, now, they've proved it.

Remember, Tressel won his only championship on a bad call. However, as long as he beats Meechigan every year he will be worshiped on the banks of the Olentangy. They really look like a mid major tonight against USC. The two quarterback system just sucked.

6. I don't know about the victory over Meesh-igan this year. |
|
Michigan looked like a bunch of freaking idiots against Notre Dame today.
What, 6 fumbles, and an interception, 5 of which led to Notre Dame TDs.
So, if OSU beats up on Michigan, there should rightfully be a collective yawn as the Wolverines have no teeth this year.

9. There were a lot of factors. |
|
The greatest of which is the offensive line. Giant, portly and cornfed works well in Midwestern/Big Ten football, but that size isn't gonna amount to a hill of shite when semi-large but far more explosive and speedier defenses (like Florida's, LSU's and SC's) keep blowing past you, effectively stopping your run and busting your plays. I think Tressel recruited better and faster linemen this time out, but we aren't going to see them until next year. They have tons of fast offensive playmakers (save their lame starting QB), but with an ineffective and sloppy line, they're rendered useless.
And quarterbacks . . . Jesus. Let's toss out the pedestrian play-calling that SC fed off of like pigs at a trough; Todd Boeckman is possibly the worst OSU quarterback in the past three decades. This big stiff cannot throw, he's painfully immobile and gets picked off way too much for someone playing at this level. He's merely a stop-gap between Troy Smith and Terrelle Pryor, who I think is going to work wonders next year when he takes over. Pryor can merely show promise in the back-up role for now.
Plain and simple, the Bucks are now paying the price for resting on their past laurels and recruitment choices by doing what got you there and not evolving with the rest of the college football world. We'll see what happens in the future. Hopefully this new crop of linemen is faster, for their sake.

4. Credit Ohio State and the Big Ten for scheduling games like this |
|
That's what I take out of it. Ohio State recently played home and home with Texas, losing at home in the final minute, then winning on the road.
This is the first game of a home and home with USC.
It's something the SEC virtually runs away from, major intersectional home and homes. The last time Florida took any type of comparable road risk was 1991 at Syracuse, a 38-21 drubbing.
Conference games are part of the routine. It's preposterous for the SEC to claim their conference schedule is so difficult when they know those teams and the travel realities, etc. On the road out of conference you're faced with numerous variables you'll never face within the conference. That's why the home field advantage is so much more significant in out of conference games. I know guys here in Las Vegas who basically don't bet all year other than playing select home teams in non conference college football and basketball.

5. Hey, the SEC plays the directional teams |
|
Damn good point. I must give OSU credit for their scheduling last year and this year. The SEC plays upper middle lower Alabama type teams. I think the Big Ten is on a Big Ten year low cycle. Since OSU won against Miami things have been worse every year. The ACC really stinks this year as much as it hurts my Hokie pride to say it. I think I may not watch whatever BCS bowl the ACC ends up getting undeservedly this year.

7. The SEC can make that claim... |
|
because most of the SEC teams are better than other conferences.
So, when they beat up on each other within the SEC, it's better than having an inter-conference matchup.
Just look at the SEC record in Bowl games the past 6 years. The SEC has the best bowl game record of any conference.

8. If the past few years prove anything, it's that no conference deserves an automatic BCS bowl bid |
|
This year the Big Ten is, at best, a mid-major conference in terms of football. By year's end it would not surprise me if they don't have a single team in the top 15.
