Favre should nave retired |
|
He was asked to carry a team for 3 years and forced it. Now, clearly the game has passed him by...or at least he doesn't have the team around him of under 25 year olds with the ball popping up into their chest at ever turn like last year.
More often than not it IS the talent. More often than not it is the General Manager and coaching.
We have the case of the player being larger than the team (worked out well enough with Cal Ripken) but this is a different team.

1. How does one "nave retired"? |
|
Yeah, he's gonna tarnish his image pulling this stupid stunt and the Jets will be shaking their heads when they finish at the bottom this year.

2. I agree with the sentiment, BUT |
|
why is this one game a shock? Do people not realize that Favre had games like this all the time. Just because he threw a couple picks and got beat by a team that damn sure didn't want to start the season 0-3 should come as a shock to nobody. But at least it is like when he was in GB when he was the greatest damn thing ever one week and then when he threw a few picks the next week he was a piece of shit.
If he takes this shitty team anywhere near .500 he is a damn miracle worker and should be treated as such (this comes from a Vikes fan--though admittedly 45 miles south of Lambeau)

7. Favre would be just as bad with the Patriots. |

You can't expect a QB who has only been familiar with one offensive scheme nearly his entire career to suddenly pick up an entirely new methodology, terminology, and rapport with teammates, in just several months.
It takes several years. The Patriots' offense would be just as foreign to Favre as the Jets' offense is. This isn't Madden on Xbox. You can't just mix and match QBs and suddenly everything works out.
Give Favre several years (i.e. 30 or so regular season games and a full offseason) in the Jets offense and he'll be like the Favre of old. However, the Jets and their fans likely don't feel like waiting that long. They want to win NOW.

8. There isn't any way to know for sure |
|
You're right about the methodology and rapport of course. But I suspect it isn't as tough for a smart old guy like Favre to pick up as we may think.
