Mets To Play Brewers In One-Game Choke-Off

MILWAUKEE—With both teams collapsing neck and neck, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that the Mets and Brewers will play a one-game choke-off to determine which team will spiral into playoff elimination. "The 2008 Brewers have proven that they can choke with the best of them, but the Mets have the choking experience," Baseball Tonight analyst John Kruk said. "It really all depends on which team decides to step up and wilt under pressure. Either way, this one should be truly painful to watch." Experts are predicting that the Mets and Brewers will both somehow find a way to lose.

2. Not only them, but the White Sox and Twins are in danger of
seeing who can lose and drop out first.

6. Cleveland just beat the White Sox
so the Twins are still up a 1/2 game!

10. So, if they both win or lose today, the Sox gotta play their make-up
game with detroit tomorrow...and if they win, a play-off game Tuesday! yeesh! Talk about stretching it out!

27. Well they both won today
so we'll see what happens tomorrow! Even if this goes to a Tuesday game and the Twins don't make it to the playoffs - they gave us a great ride this year. At the beginning of the season it was being predicted they'd be lucky to finish 3rd.

4. Yeah bring on the mets
Or the Brewers or the Dodgers. The mighty Cubs will slay any of them. It'll be either Dodgers or mets in the opening round. I'm sort of torn because I don't want any NY teams in the playoffs, but the Dodgers are a much tougher first round draw. But as I said, either way, the mighty Cubs will take 'em down. GO CUBS!

7. I don't think any team in the NL wants a piece of Santan or Pelfrey
in a five game set. Those two will just shut you down.

The Mets bullpen may suck but I don't think any team has a shot against those guys should they go deep.

The Mets have a lot of flaws but I wouldn't be too cocky to face them in a five game set.

20. Interesting that you didn't mention the Phillies. I had a feeling they
were the only NL team the Cubs were really worried about. I think that'd be a great NLCS! :toast:

5. How can you hold your head up rooting for a team that
has one of the highest payrolls in Major League Baseball, yet chokes year after year in the East?

It's really disgraceful dude.

8. Because for the last three years they've been competitve
despite last seasons choke job not one analyst gave them a shot the entire year. Despite all the pitching woes and loss of outfilders they still ran the NL East up until the final game. Philly at the end of the year was only one game better than them.

This year has been more of the same but they did come back after canning Willy in a big way.

Despite what happens tomorrow I know the Mets are getting Manny in the offseason. Adiose to Alou and adiose to Chavez.

Oh, and I would also pencil in Sabbathia after the Mets say goodbye to Oliver Perez.

9. Even a retard like George W Bush could have assembled a
competitive team with the money NY has spent on payroll!!

Who cares if they've been competitive? It's a disgrace the way they choke every year.

You tell me how to defend that.

And by the way, I thought Santana was supposed to have taken the choking Mets to the promise land?

This is why teams get away with shit. Because they know as bad as they choke and fuck up, there will always be apologist fans like you running back and kissing their butts .. reassuring them they can do no wrong.

Yes, giving you a hard time, but I do believe what I'm saying.

And I'm sure Phillies fans are just laughing and laughing!!11!

Choke. Choke.

14. I still have nightmares with Mookie in them
But I blame Buckner more...and all is forgiven with him now. :)

I think Pedro is already unhappy. And his career is done now.

I *heart* NY; it's the Yankees I can't stand. (I used to have that bumpersticker.)

15. Yeah, I CAN root for the Mets if need be, but can't do it for the Yankees...
...maybe because growing up the yankees were always winning, and the Mets were also-rans back then, just like the Sox.

17. It was Stanley's fault for not breaking toward the bag. No way Buckner's going...
to beat Mook to the bag if he fields it cleanly. He was moving to his left away from the base.

Mook was one of the fastest in the league to first.

It's Stanley's fault, not Buckner's.

19. In the 2004 WS "official" DVD, which you probably don't have, there's
a feature on the curse, and one of the players from 1986 remembers seeing the scoreboard, in the 9th, congratulaing "the 1986 world champion Boston Red sox."

Then hell broke loose on the field.

Talk about irony.

26. Alex Gonzales no longer plays in MLB
I know you are speaking of Bartman, but it wasn't his fault. Alex friggin' Gonzalez watched a ground ball pass by which almost certainly would have resulted in a double play and the Bartman incident would have never happened. I still have not forgiven Gonzalez and likely never will.
