Nuggets Trade Iverson to Pistons for Billups and McDyess.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/basketball/nba/11/03/pistons.nuggets.trade.ap/index.html

Way to destroy team chemistry, Pistons. I'll predict right now they won't make their 7th consecutive appearance in the Eastern Conference finals.

3. Yea. I think anyone who follows the NBA is aware no team
"led" by Mr. Iverson will ever win a championship.

Poor Detroit .. not that the Pistons really need another title so soon...

4. I love Chauncey but I think this could work for the Pistons
I've thought they lacked emotion in the final rounds of the playoffs the last couple of years. I've also noted that Chauncey hasn't been as good at the end of games - his 3-point shot gets off and he can't adjust.

I'll take it and hope that Iverson is (pardon the pun) the spark plug the Pistons have needed. I like his scrappiness and I think he'll fit in with the Detroit fans.

5. Come on, Iverson is all about team...
as long as you don't expect him to practice with them. After all, most successful NBA players and coaches will tell you that practice doesn't matter. :sarcasm:

Unfortunately, I suspect this will begin Detroit's spiral into mediocrity for now. I think the Pistons did this so they could rebuild without looking like they were rebuilding. Iverson should keep the attendance up, but I'll be very surprised if he leads them as far as they went last year. They should be able to still make the playoffs in a relatively weak eastern conference, though.

Sorry for Detroit fans, after a tough season from the Tigers and, well, a tough decade from the Lions, they deserve to have more competitive teams. Oh well, go Wings I guess.

11. Iverson has earned the right to slouch a bit in practice at this point in his career...
He won't be the first.

12. At this point, maybe, but it started years ago...
From the 2002 press conference:
Reporter: "Is it possible that if you practiced, not you but you would make your teammates better?"
Iverson: "How in the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing?

And after reading all the Salary Cap/2010 Free agent market stuff, I'm convinced that even the Pistons don't believe this will make their 2009 turn out better than their 2008 playoff run. No knock on the Pistons front office, sometimes you have to do this sort of strategic planning, but Iverson's not the Answer for their playoff woes.

7. Iverson is part of a grand plan for Joe D. Salary Dump, A.I is a one year and done player.
Can you say Lebron James a Piston in 2010, the Pistons will be one of the only teams with enough salary cap space to lure the new King of the Palace.

9. I never thought about that angle.
LeBron would be walking into an infinitely better situation in Detroit than he would in NY, and better than what he has in Cleveland right now.

15. Iverson's 20 mil will go off the books in 2009. Here comes The King of the Palace.
Imagine the marketing money alone.

16. This would be the lineup, Hamilton just signed a new two year deal
Stuckey
Hamilton
Prince
Lebron
Maxiell/Amir Johnson

You have the Prince of the Palace with the King of the Palace, Joe Dumars is a smart man, minus Darko of course.

19. Sorry to say, but the Wojnarowski jerkoff fantasy will never come true.
Woj is a Big City fellater/Cleveland hater through and through. LeBron will get his title here, much to his dismay. It's only a matter of time.

8. Pistons Make the Playoffs
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 12:00 PM by erpowers
Even though I think the Pistons should have traded for Carmelo Anthony if they were going to trade for anyone, I think the Pistons will still make the playoffs since the Eastern Conference seems to be so weak. However, it is possible that they will not make it very far in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see if this trade helps the Denver Nuggets. If Carmelo Anthony is as good as many people think he is(I think he is. Few people seem to talk about it, but Anthony took a bottom feeder team to the playoffs and they have never missed the playoffs since he has been with the team) having more of a passing point guard might help make him a better player. So, the Nuggets if they make it to the playoffs may finally have a chance to get to the second round. It seems a number of people criticize the Nuggets for not making it past the first round, but if I am correct and you look at it in three of the few years the Nuggets have played, in the first round, the team that either went on to play in the NBA finals or win the NBA championship. I do not think it is that bad of a deal win you lose in the first round to the best or second best team in the NBA.

13. Smart move long term for Pistons. This team isn't getting any
younger and after Iverson's contract runs out there are some great free agents out there and they will have the money to sign them.

17. This may end up blowing up in the face of Dumars
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 03:46 PM by Saint Etienne17
Iverson is still a first ballot HoF talent.

He is great on both sides of the ball, just he chucks a bit too much.

If he's healthy (which has been his problem 'cept last year), Detroit will go to the ECF and maybe the finals. Iverson will be a more prolific scorer with Detroit, and heck he's great at picking the ball off too. What would Joe do then? Keep Iverson like the fans may ned up clamoring for, or try a shot at luring Lebron?

The past few years he's scoring a bit above 25 ppg, 7+ assists (quite a lot for someone who isn't supposed to be a PG), 2 steals pg, and 45% shooting.

Iverson is the most underrated player in the NBA and it may be smarter for Detroit to try to resign Iverson for not as much money and add someone like Lamar Odom, then really blow the team up in 4 or 5 years.
