Here we go again with Iverson. I mean, who would sign this guy?
Every team he plays for fails in the playoffs.

He has no proven track record of team success.

He is a distraction. Doesn't respect his head coaches.

He's a loser. Period.

Pistons to fine Iverson after guard misses practice Thursday

Detroit Pistons guard Allen Iverson missed practice Thursday and will be levied a "hefty" fine, coach Michael Curry said.

"I'm surprised when guys are late; I'm surprised when they don't show," Curry said, according to the Detroit Free Press. "It's a pretty hefty fine to be late, or to miss, and once again, it's accountability for yourself and your teammates."

Rodney Stuckey, who scored 13 points and added a career-high 11 assists for his first career double-double Wednesday in a 110-96 victory over New York, will start in Iverson's place Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Curry said he hadn't decided whether Iverson would play.

Iverson, who was traded from the Denver Nuggets nearly a month ago, is averaging 18.5 points and 5.4 assists in 10 games with the Pistons this season.

He talked Saturday about the importance of finding chemistry with a new team through practice.

"I've been through it before," Iverson said. "I think the toughest part of it has been our schedule. We've been on the road a lot. That was tough. For me, it's just getting a chance to settle in.

"The most important thing is getting more practice time." :eyes:

Maybe Iverson can hire barry bonds as an agent. Gosh lets get selective on where our moral compass takes us.

2. I don't understand your sarcasm. Iverson is a notorious
problem player.

He gets a break to go play for one of the best franchises of this decade, and he misses practice?

At least Barry showed up.

I haven't like Iverson since long before he started playing in the NBA. You don't want the likes of Iverson playing in pro sports, but the likes of Bonds, A-OK!???

"At least Barry Showed UP!" Should be in the running for his tombstone.

6. No BOSS, I never said I don't want Iverson playing
in the NBA.

I said I don't understand why teams would want to sign him since he leads his teammates nowhere.

But well done once again fitting Barry Bonds into one of my threads that has nothing to do with him.

11. How could he play if teams didn't sign him??
If NBA owners understood you, then Iverson wouldn't be playing. Right?

and speaking of not playing, I guess no baseball owners wanted barry this past season and goooollllllyyyyy what a great season it was. Without him.

A thread that has nothing to do with him? The thread was about a player(s) that is bad for the sport, according to you. Iverson pales when compared to barry! At being bad for the sport.

Please keep posting Cboy, between you and crossword puzzles my early stage dementia may go into remission.

and knowing the difference. Patriots, Seahawks, Eagles, Vikings. It doesn't matter to me who does wrong, that's where my fixation will be. I see no honor in apologizing for people who do wrong and cheering them on and making their lives comfortable. The Pats coach did wrong, got a chump change fine then laughed at everyone involved with the NFL including the fans. I guess those in Pat Nation don't care if they are laughed at or taken advantage of.

I forgot to add - In Patriot Nation apparently winning is everything. Do you all cheat on tests as well?

This is a clown who whines about right and wrong to no end, then calls for others to cheat, lie and do all they can to beat the Patriots. He can't even see his own flaming hypocrisy. Must suck being senile.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed 0913 Sunday AM after a great night of sleep. Does it suck not concerning oneself with right and wrong? billichick is a cheater, the Patriots won because he is a cheater, you whine and pout a little bit for show, but bottom line you and the vast majority of Patriot Nation don't care about right and wrong. No editorializing, just the facts. FYI, I still chat about right and wrong relative to OJ Simpson and his 1995 trial. Type real slow and splain that hypocrisy thing will ya, or is it just a northeast reactionary defensive mechanism. When all else fails and I can't convince someone to understand me I'll scream hypocrisy.

any zoo would want to have a skunk on exhibit, and you jumping to the conclusion that I don't want skunks on exhibit.

You're presenting a false argument since teams will and are signing him.

I'm simply asking, why would any team that is on a quest to win an NBA title want him, since he is a complete post season failure.

By the way, did you know the Giants only drew 2,863,837 at home this year? They usually draw more than 3-million. Why was attendance down? No Barry.

Also, did you know the Giants only averaged 32,269 on the road this past season? That was way down over last season. Why? No Barry.

But back to Iverson, who you accuse me of wanting to boycott...

If Iverson gets blamed for not winning a championship then so should the likes of great players who never won such as Marino. It's a team sport and not one player deserves blame, without him those teams probaly wouldn't of made the playoffs. Leading the team in scoring and no one can deny his toughness. He won an Eastern Conference Championship which by any standard is a great accomplishment.

We all knew we would work holidays signing up for our careers, and so you just do it.

And I will continue to bash Iverson until he switches from a me player to a team player and helps his team do something in the playoffs.

Kobe, Duncan, Parker, Garnett, Shaq.

What do all those players have in common Jon?

Yea, rings.

You tell me how a player who scores 30+ a game can't help his team succeed.

And why did he get traded so quickly out of Denver?

He is a loser.

I thought the acquisiton of Iverson was a mistake and trading him for Billups was the smartest move they've made in a long time.

Iverson is a great scorer and a lot of fun to watch - but he doesn't bring to a team that intangible that seperates great players from winners.

Billups does, and the Pistons are going to regret trading him away...

45. Does anyone know what Thursday is? THANKSGIVING!!!
On November 27,2008, Allen Iverson apparently chose family and food over practice - and he'll be fined for it. Iverson was the only player who didn't show up when the Detroit Pistons worked out on Thanksgiving. Coach Michael Curry confirmed Iverson will be fined, will not start Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks and might not play in the game for missing the practice. After Detroit traded for the superstar, Iverson insisted he would do whatever Curry wanted him to and even mocked his famous rant about practice while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. The Pistons are 5-5 since acquiring Iverson from Denver for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb. McDyess and the Nuggets reached a buyout agreement and the power forward's agent said he will re-sign next month in Detroit. Pistons guard Allen Iverson has apologized for missing a team practice on Thursday, but didn't reveal why he was absent.

"First of all, I have no excuses. I apologize to my teammates, first and foremost, the coaching staff, the organization and definitely our fans," Iverson said Friday morning. "It's something that shouldn't have happened and it won't happen again.

"It was a personal matter, but I just handled it the wrong way," Iverson continued. "I didn't call and let them know what was going on."

Detroit coach Michael Curry has already stated that Iverson will not be in the starting lineup against Milwaukee on Friday night.

61. Let's take a look at things at the All-Star break
DETROIT, usually a dominant power in the East, has fallen to a humiliating 27-24 and is an embarrassing #7 seed.

And DENVER, Iverson's former team, 36-17 1st place and an impressive tie for #2 seed.

I again ask, who would take this guy?

Something is up.

62. This doesn't happen much, but I think I have to agree with you somewhat.

Iverson has rarely been a player that can take his team to the next level. But IMO the Nuggets' and Pistons' changing fortunes have more do with the presence of Chauncey Billups than anything else.

68. Yea, you make my point. Swap talented players and
look what happens.

Only one has an impact, and it's not Iverson.

So I think it's a combination of Billips arriving in Denver and Iverson leaving Denver to explain part of the Nuggets' success.

63. Bringing him on destroyed my enthusiasm for the Pistons
I doubt I've watched five games this season. :(

64. bull, Iverson throws it all out there every minute of every game
he doesn't practice because his 5'10" frame can't handle it
that is not an excuse-at game time Iverson play flat out with complete diregard for his body and always has.

65. Did you read my OP?
I'm not accusing Iverson of not trying.

My point is, for reasons that are unclear to me, it's obvious that he is not a team player, which is why all of his teams struggle and eventually get rid of him.

That is a fact that cannot be disputed.

66. Then that explains his lack of success
You can give all the effort you want in a game, but if you haven't given it in practice you're going nowhere. That wouldn't be so bad except that it also drags down your team when you don't work to become a unit with them.

And his attitude--summed up so perfectly in that quote of his in a post above--somewhat belies your theory, and suggests laziness rather than inability as the source of his lack of preparation.

67. It's not about practice
he gets everything he can out of his body and talent.
sometimes it isn't enough

69. I'm not surprised you ignored my question .. I would too if I
didn't have an answer.

And of course, it's about practice. That's when you learn to play as a team

And of course he's absolutely not getting everything out of his "talent."

That's ridiculous. His talent is instrumental in team failure .. especially during the playoffs.

70. I'm not much of a BB guy but I loved watching A.I. in Philly.
He really did leave it all on the floor and was a warrior with tremendous heart. However, being on a team is more than just killing yourself in the games. It's raising the play of those around you, it's doing play reps in practice until your unit just instinctively reacts, it's watching film and taking instruction from your coaches. A.I. was a great player here but he wasn't a champion. Michael Jordan is considered by many to be the best player ever, if anyone could afford to skip practice it was him but he never did. He was always the first guy on the court and the last guy off of it. And he went at game speed in practice. Always teaching, always learning, always pushing himself and his team. The same goes with any great player in any sport with rare exceptions (Lawrence Taylor comes to mind). A.I. will be in the Hall of Fame, he might be the best little guy to ever play the game, but he'll never be considered a great team guy and I don't think he'll ever get a ring. He would have been even greater and probably a champion if he pushed himself and was a leader in the time that a team spends out of the spotlight.

71. Good analysis.
I felt bad for the way he reportedly treated Larry Brown in Philly.

What a mess that was .. our first real up close look at the chaos surrounding a hell of a basketball talent.
