Great season Phins--- I can't wait till 09.
We need a stud receiver--- some offensive line help... and maybe a few more special teamers... I see hope... plenty of hope.

BTW: Congrats to the Miami Hurricanes---sorry---I mean the Baltimore Ravens for a great game.

Man they're tough.

38. I hope he's replaced next year
In fact, it's my #1 personnel priority. I always isolate an annoying Dolphin who essentially acts as a regulator, a starter who is not close to championship caliber, and trust the coaches to agree with me and search for an immediate upgrade. In recent years I've batted 1.000 but I'm worried this is like Tim Ruddy about a decade ago, a mediocrity who we're stuck with for a while.

Matt Roth carried a tough guy reputation from college but in the NFL he has no threat of speed or athletic ability to stand out and make plays, at any position. He lumbers around with those short arms and basically arm wrestles with the blocker, never threatening to disengage other than one or two plays per game when he slants inside either at the line of scrimmage or slightly behind, and occasionally bumps into someone. Otherwise, on the vast majority of plays he finally is let go by the blocker and Roth takes 2 or 3 steps toward the pile, like he's discovered something. It's hilarious, probably the most dependable aspect of Dolphin football right now.

I have no idea how he's a fan favorite. The guy reminds me of those old Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots from my youth, square build and supposedly tough, then you step back and realize how limited they are, same move every time and remarkably immobile.

Admittedly, I get sick of watching Roth on every play.

Pennington might as well have been naked back there.

A whole nine points.

At least we don't have to be tortured any more about all of that ridiculous talk about them possibly making it to the Super Bowl this year!

Oh wait a minute... they weren't in the playoffs were they? Oh and I want to thank your team for the win against them that helped us into the playoffs.

Dude--- You're giving me shit about my team?

You are the gift that keeps on giving...silly girl.

Miami was embarrassed today.

18. Yea, I know a lot about sports -- especially the part about
how Miami had a weak schedule, beating terrible Buffalo twice, terrible Oakland, horrific Kansas City, atrocious St. Louis, awful Seattle, lousy Denver.....they lost to lousy Houston and just barely beat San Francisco which statistically dominated the Dolphins.

Sorry you think Miami is so much better than they are.

You're probably the guy I listen to on sports radio proposing all of the ridiculous trades.

5. Miami obviously benefited from a WEAK schedule
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 06:26 PM by Upton
They played only 3 playoff teams all year, losing 2 of the games. Next year, they're going to have a REAL schedule, meaning a 500 finish is more in the offing, if that.

10. It's simple
when only 1 of your 11 wins is over a playoff team...and when you weren't even competitive today, one has to question the legitimacy of this so called turnaround.

If, as you suggest, Miami improves next year then your argument can be given some credence. Until then, the jury is still out.

11. The Dolphins are vastly improved, trumad...
but they did have a weak schedule this year. They got to play the two weakest divisions in the NFL (NFC West and AFC West) which undoubtedly gave them a couple of wins more than if they had played, say, the NFC East or AFC South.

Provided they shore up the OLine and get themselves a go-to receiver (Ginn, while brilliant, can't do everything), they will compete for the AFC East crown again.

16. Oh please. Are you telling me you can't tell the difference
between a decent 11-5 record and a so-so, average blah 11-5 record?

Yes indeed, when you break it down, the Dolphins had an average record -- and their rout in the playoffs against Baltimore is absolute proof.

Even though Miami edged San Diego earlier this season when S.D. was struggling, the Chargers finishing at 8-8 are head and shoulders better than your team.

Look at who they just beat in the playoffs. A red hot Indianapolis team led by the AP player of the year. Yup.

Miami came up with a miracle and beat San Francisco. It beat up on other teams like terrible Buffalo twice, the horrific Chiefs, the terrible Raiders, the terrible Rams and the terrible Broncos who should have had one more loss since they cheated during one game.

I think you get the idea.

And if you don't, then you're an embarrassing Miami Dolphins apologist.

At least I'm subjective when it comes to my franchise.

So go ahead and blow up at me and call me a name and talk your team up like they're the 1967 Green Bay Packers.

We expect nothing less.

22. This year AFC & NFC West.
Oakland, Denver, San Diego, Kansas City, Seattle, Arizona, St. Louis, San Francisco. Only one team above .500.

Next year, AFC & NFC South. Tennessee, Indianapolis, Houston, Jacksonville, Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, New Orleans. Only one team below .500.

You're not going to do nearly as well next year, but you still might win the division if Brady doesn't come back to the Patriots.

23. So what are you trying to say? The Dolphins are better than
the "powerful" Jets and Bills?

Even SF beat NY andBuffalo.

Fine, you beat the 49ers. But it was a complete struggle at your home stadium.

You're certainly not nearly as good as New England.

So I don't know what you point is.

You're definitely and obviously improved over last season.

But my point is there are a shocking number of people overstating how good you are right now.

And that 11-5 record is deceptive.

24. Next year's projected Dolphin schedule
I predict 7-9, at best 8-8...no playoffs. Of course, they could fall apart completely, since they won't have the benefit of 2008's cupcakes.

Home
Patriots (11-5)
Jets (9-7)
Bills (7-9)
Texans (8-8)
Colts (12-4)
Bucs (9-7)
Saints (8-8)
Steelers (12-4)

Away
Patriots (11-5)
Jets (9-7)
Bills (7-9)
Titans (13-3)
Jaguars (5-11)
Falcons (11-5)
Panthers (12-4)
Broncos (8-8)

Next year's team has nothing to do with this year's team. The fallacy of the NFL fan is he believes because his team got greatly better than the previous year, it will continue to improve the following year. Not so. It's more likely to regress back, somewhat, to where it came from.
