1. It was a great catch...
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 05:24 AM by AsahinaKimi
But can not be called "THE CATCH"...^^

Some team, has already claimed that moniker! :)

*SNIP*
The Catch refers to what was the winning touchdown reception by Dwight Clark of a Joe Montana pass in the January 10, 1982 NFC Championship Game between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers. The Catch is widely regarded as one of the most memorable events in NFL history.

*SNIP*
The 49ers won 28-27 and went on to win Super Bowl XVI over the Cincinnati Bengals.

This game was a watershed in the historic fortunes of both the 49ers and the Cowboys. After being a losing team in the 1970s, San Francisco went on to win four Super Bowls in the 1980s, and made the playoffs eight out of the next 10 years.Meanwhile, Dallas, the most successful team in the NFC in the 1970s, never made it back to the Super Bowl in the 1980s, and suffered losing seasons in the last part of that decade.

2. Sure it can....
It was a far better catch than Clark's... all he had to do was catch it.... Holmes had to catch it and get his feet in bounds.

Hell I contend that last years catch by David Tyree was better than Clarks.

Oh and BTW: Clark didn't make his in a Super Bowl.

Oh well--- I see you and your other personality already started a whiny thread about it.

14. We are the top Super Bowl team
Undefeated.

Perfect record.

In fact, the last two Super Bowl pounding humiliation routs against Denver and San Diego are an indication we're too good for the competition when we win the NFC Championship.

Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 05:22 PM by AsahinaKimi
Or even in a Superbowl, but it launched the 49ers to become the team of the decade, and besides, as it stated;
"The Catch is widely regarded as one of the most memorable events in NFL history."

When you google "The Catch".. this is what you will always get. Too late to say, "OH, wer'e sorry, that Catch wasn't good enough, lets name another "catch" ..The Catch. Thats like making "The Mustang".. into "That ol' Grey Mare" because some newer car came along that looks better. This is NFL HISTORY.

5. I agree.
The Catch is The Catch. It'd be like calling Harrison's interception the Immaculate Reception. come up with a new name.

he was glad Holmes wore a size 14 shoe instead of his regular size 11 - just enough extra to keep those toes on the ground! :D :D

11. Great and Lucky...
Great job on Holmes part to pull it down and keep his feet in. Lucky that the refs didn't see his little "football powder shaker" dance and give him a 15 yard penalty for using the ball as a prop.

12. Yes it was a great catch by Holmes
but it cannot be called "The Catch" because that is already taken by Dwight Clark's effort. Call it something else.

BTW, Clark's catch was made against a far superior defense.

15. "The Catch" reenactment
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 07:03 PM by AsahinaKimi

Two Years ago on Alumni day, Joe Montana and Dwight Clark reenacted THE CATCH at Candlestick park. I was there, and it was fantastic to watch it happen again! This time, Joe didn't make Dwight Jump for it, however I think, it was such an emotional event, most of all the fans went crazy or cried like I did.

HERE IS THE REAL THING!

**NOTE~~ I didn't know Vin Scully called this game..I only thought he did
Dodger games. Hank Stram I knew, did color in most football games.

16. Really amazing. Now, what's with the new rule permitting receivers to have #s like '10'?
I was amazed by the replay delay because it looked like a real catch in real time.

18. Yeah ..but thats Baseball
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 10:31 PM by AsahinaKimi

Oh, and of course Willie Mays was a GIANT. I always heard it referred to as a
"basket" Catch. In any event, two different catches, two different (Now) San Francisco
Bay Area teams. How about that!! (Yes, I know that was in New York.)^^

I was there last year when Pac Bell Park honored him, again!

um...WHEN DOES BASEBALL SEASON START??

22. That was not a basket catch
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 01:12 AM by Jack Rabbit
Willie Mays was famous for his "basket catch" of routine fly balls. His upper arms would be pointed down with his forearms raised just over waist high, glove up rather than out, like he was carrying a fruit basket.

This ball, hit by Cleveland Indian first baseman Vic Wertz in the first game of the 1954 World Series, was no routine fly. In any other park except the Polo Grounds, it would have cleared the fence in straightaway center field for a home run.

The season begins in the last week of March, I believe. Any hope for our Giants this year?

23. Giants Fans are excited with the new line up
http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=sf

To tell you the truth, though I have gone to Candlestick and the new stadium many times,
I have always been an Angels fan. When the Angels played the Giants in the world
series, I rooted for the Angels, while Dad rooted for the Giants. When I lived
in Santa Barbara for a few years, I often went down with friends to Anahiem
to watch the Angels play. The Giants are my second favorite team, but I will always
root for the Angels.

I had a HUGE crush on Tim Salmon, something fierce!! When he autographed a photo for me,
a few years ago I thought I would die..

21. I disagree. It was an epic catch but I don't think you can say it was
"much more memorable" than a game winning TD catch with 35 seconds to go in the Super Bowl. It doesn't get much more memorable than that.

should have been called "the throw." A slight to Joe Montana?
