Post Secondary system to get restitution in corruption investigation
Post Secondary system to get any restitution ordered in corruption investigation

Prosecutors in the investigation into corruption in the state's (Alabama) two-year college system have agreed to name the Department of Post Secondary Education as the recipient of any restitution judges order in the case, the system's chancellor said Thursday.

That means the system doesn't have to go ahead with a lawsuit it planned to file to recoup money from the widespread scandal that turned its schools into personal piggy banks for some administrators and state legislators.

...

The system's losses include $18 million ordered repaid by fired chancellor Roy Johnson and large amounts from others charged in the corruption scheme that mined millions from the department.

Johnson pleaded guilty in March to receiving thousands of dollars in services, furniture and work on his homes in exchange for awarding contracts for work in the two-year system. Other lower-level employees, including a former state representative and a former interim college president, have also pleaded guilty.
