Update on our contract situation |
|
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=219&topic_id=10553&mesg_id=10553Union was told today negotiations will end on Wed and the district and the union are to submit their respective proposals to the school board. I guess that means they are imposing a contract on us?

2. We have been in mediation since the first of July I think |
|
There are federal mediators here sitting in on negotiations. Isn't that mediation?

3. Well you got me Proud. Are the "Federal" mediators from NEA? |

I suppose I spoke too soon. The last time I worked for a District that submitted a contract to the board, it meant mediation followed by a decision by the mediators about which team, District of Union, had the better case.

6. This isn't making for a very relaxing summer, is it? |
|
Teachers need their downtime to recover from the insane pace of the school year. I don't know how your district will get rested and energized for the start of the school year with this crap going on.
I don't know what that means, "submitting respective proposals." Will they reject the proposals? They CAN'T impose a contract, if you don't vote to ratify it. Will they "dare" you to strike? If so, WILL the district strike?
The budget is so tight right now; I've used every last financial resource at my disposal helping to rehabilitate my grandson the last 3 years. I have nothing left. If my district struck, I'd lose my house.

I read your other post, what a mess.
I wish there was something I could do to help but I'm in California where things are also challenging but for different reasons.
I never liked the way my union handled many of our affairs, I hope you all get what you need to do your important jobs.
