religious music in public schools - official policies? |
|
Do they exist? I ask because on of our schools uses Christian songs almost exclusively and no one says anything except it will be that way until the dept. head retires.

and sang in the a capella choir, we did tons of Christian songs. In fact when we did our choir trip in the spring we were singing in Baptist churches. This was in South Houston, Texas, so not too surprising, I guess.

in High School, we were told we could not sing 'Christian' songs in the choir, but we did 'Dona Nobis' one year for the Christmas program. I guess it's 'okay' if it's in Latin. It was all blamed on Madeliene Murray O'Haire, who I believe was unfairly demonized.
Then, when I was 16, my mom moved us to Salt Lake, where they used to say the Mormon prayers at assemblies, and they had Mormon 'seminary' courses as actual courses to take in HS. It seems to cause more trouble if you raise a stink about this shit, than if you just let it slide, which is too bad. Who wants to be demonized like that poor Jewish girl in Salt Lake whose parents always hired lawyers to dispute the Mormon shit? That poor girl went through hell in my High School, but she was right. No one should be subjected to someone else's religion when you are simply trying to get an education. Don't they have tax exempt churches for this shit?

4. Until last year, my daughters high school choir sang the Hallelujah |

at the "Holiday" concert. Nothing like watching the Orthodox Jewish boy with his yarmulke having to sing "King of Kings, Lord of Lords" and looking like he expected tobe struck dead at any moment. The kid would have lost credit if he didn't participate!
This is on Long Island no less. Thankfully the idiot principal retired las year so now they don't do that anymore.
