repeal NCLB
I want to repeal no child left behind; it's as useful and beneficial to our society as the dork that created it.

1. So do I. Don't hold your breath.
It's a bipartisan disaster, and I think you'll find Democrats, and the next president, will blow a lot of hot air about "fixing" and/or "funding" it, without acknowledging that, being based on destructive, inaccurate premises, it can't be "fixed," and that funding bad legislation doesn't make it better.

3. I don't think it's realistic.
Democrats supported it along with Bush. I think the most we can hope for would be amendments to it to fix
its problems.

There is an online petition you can sign that calls for the dismantling of NCLB. Go here:

http://www.educatorroundtable.org/petition.html

The petition can also be printed out and signed the old-fashioned way. Counting those, we are nearing 35,000 signatures which is just a drop in the bucket. We had hoped for a million signatures (sigh) but who knows what might happen in the months to come. Unfortunately, being grassroots ordinary people, we have not had any funds to advertise the petition in a long time. Also, when we first came out with it, Reg Weaver, national head of the NEA, sent state affiliates letters advising them not to support our petiton. I believe that cost us perhaps hundreds of thousands of signatures. They would not help us.

5. Get on Change.gov and let 'em know.
I'm getting every teacher I know to write in, and a lot of my students are interested in doing so, as well.

6. So do I...teachers depise it; seemingly across the board
I would think it'd be easy to pass...

7. Teachers hate NCLB
It's the teaching to the test especially at the eearly ages.

Instead of kids actually learning, they waste too much time with this bubble nonsense.

Also there are testing companies that make tons of money from the testing programs.

Just abolish it, let the local schools spend the money in the classroom, on gifted classes, on music/art/tech/gym/field trips, etc...

8. Teachers hate it, politicians love it.
Including Democratic politicians.

How do we convince Democrats to abolish NCLB and all forms of high-stakes testing?
