National Young Scholars Program
My daughter was nominated for this program and I was wondering if any one had heard of it.

1. Some of those "honor" programs just exist to sell their books.
I get packets from them all the time asking me to nominate students. They say they have scholarships, but I wonder if anyone actually receives them. I throw them away.

I don't know anything specific about the Young Scholars Program.... it could be different. Most of them ask you to submit a biography, then they try to sell you a yearbook for $75 or whatever. My son used to get offers from United States Achievement Academy all the time.

2. Here's their web page:
http://www.nationalyoungscholars.org/

It looks like kids have to be nominated by their teachers, so you might want to ask her teacher how s/he chose your daughter. Some sort of academic enrichment summer camp job, on quick perusal.

It also costs between $1,500 and $2,000 to attend. They do have a scholarship program, but seem to encourage kids to raise funds to cover tuition costs.

I'm leery of this kind of stuff by nature, but it might be worthwhile to see what your child's teacher saw that brought about the nomination. I don't have that kind of money, but if it were my child I'd have the talk with the teacher, probably thank them for thinking so well of my child, and let the whole thing drop.
