1. Educators everywhere overwhelmingly oppose Duncan's agenda.

3. Not a surprise, lol.
Again, George Schmidt nailed it when he was appointed, designating him a "privatizer, union-buster, and corporate stooge."

4. And yet, he is Obama's man...
I just don't get Obama and what he's trying to achieve to fix education. Why couldn't Obama pick a person who actually has classroom experience?

5. I have to say that Obama has never really been
education friendly. His reception at the NEA was cool until they had no other choice, and he told FOX in an interview that he sometimes "gets in trouble with teachers."

The interview where they asked him to talk about an issue that he thinks republicans are better than Democrats on, and he picked education. :(

Here's a link to that interview; it was long. The part about education is 19 taps of the "page down" key on my keyboard.

10. Evalkauting a teacher based on "data" is BS.
I am, however, evaluated on whether or not I use data in determining my course of action and to what extent I use that data. I'm better than most teachers at my school, but I'm still learning; as an English teacher, things like "standard deviations" and "numbers" come neither easily nor naturally. Learning how to use data to achieve the educational goals that I have set has made me a better teacher. The emphasis needs to be on training teachers how to make informative, valuable assessments and then how to use those assessments, not on assessing teachers.

I work at a tough school. While I've had kids go off to Howard or Stanford, for some of my kids it's all I can do to provide them with a safe place so they can not prostitute themselves or join gangs. Try measuring that, Mr. Duncan. I'm sure ol' Arne would say that I have low expectations and why haven't I taught them the Jane Schaffer method of writing, but I'm really happy when a young man or woman from the shitty neighborhood I live in, work in, and grew up in comes up and says, "You saved my life." Just try and measure that.

16. Republicans found a way to squeeze more profit out of public education.
I am disappointed that Obama wants the same. I remember Hillary said that NCLB would be gone if she were president.
