Possible means of teacher protest
I'm subscribed to a good many progressive groups, and I get dozens of emails from them every day of the week. Today I got an email from Barack Obama via the Democratic Party (www.democrats.org). Rather than donate, as it requested, I clicked on the unsubscribe button instead. When they asked for a reason, I told them that since no one was supporting teachers, I'd be damned if I would support them.

It probably won't do any good, but it sure felt satisfying.

4. Good On You. I've Done The Same, And Not Just For One Candidate
You don't support public education, you don't get my vote, period.

5. Same here.
It's a dealbreaker. None of this neoliberal garbage of charters, privatization, merit pay, etc.

6. I don't know if it's the same where you are...
but in TN teachers are under contract not to go on 'strike'. Which, of course, would be the single most effective way to wake people up to their needs.

7. It's illegal in most states
But it sure hasn't stopped teachers when they had no other alternative.

10. You can do informational picketing
Prison officers aren't allowed to strike in our state either, funny how the gov't takes away the most effective ways for workers to represent themselves, but we picketed during our off hours. I know prisons are 24 hour facilities and schools aren't but there must be opportunities to for a picket line that would get noticed.

8. I just did the same.... here's the rant I submitted
Until the Democratic Party starts representing the people instead of corporate interests, I'll support individual Progressive candidates. Oh, and Obama's education plan? Right. He’s just giving free reign to the corporations to privatize education with no input from TEACHERS. LISTEN TO THE TEACHERS! We're the ones who know how to educate, not some basketball pal of Obama's who has NEVER taught a day in his life and hasn't a clue. Maybe it's Obama who hasn't a clue. Anyway, when you've lost me, you've lost the nation. Oh, and stop trying to negotiate with the Republicans. They aren't going to play ball and they're having a good laugh at Obama's expense and naiveté.

9. I ranted a little so I feel better. Thanks. I doubt anyone will ever read it though.
They have already decided what they will do to destroy free public education in America.
