Security cameras in all classrooms and a written policy on the use of chemical sprays are among the future changes parents and students can expect at Linwood Public Charter School in Shreveport.
It didn't take a vote or much debate for school Director Buck Magee to announce the changes Monday to committee members and a sea of mostly empty auditorium seats at the school's board meeting Monday.
"We treat safety of our students as a top priority," Magee said. He recounted the events of the on-campus fight between two sixth-grade girls Thursday that ended with a reported 33 students and two school employees being sprayed with Mace by the school's resource officer, Sgt. Joey Willis, who also is a member of the Shreveport Police Department.
...Cameras for all classrooms already have been budgeted for next year, which Magee estimates will cost about $25,000 to $30,000.
Board members also are working with the charter's operator, Sabis International Schools Network, to create a written policy governing the use of chemical sprays by the resource officer.

I know even charter school supporters want to comment on this OUTRAGE!
