Mayor won't vote for same sex marriage resolution
http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/articles/2009/01/30/news/latest_news/fd7a9e9a8d1e7af98625754e0063b72e.txt

Mayor Mike Hobart said today he won't vote for the proposed same sex marriage resolution Monday, nor will he likely sign it if passed.

The resolution defines traditional marriage as between one man and one woman. Hobart anticipated the resolution will receive approval by a council majority of Councilmen Dave Ferris, Brent Hoffman and Aaron Rochester. When Hoffman proposed the issue in December, the council majority sidestepped the issue by posting a vote to seek an attorney general's opinion. Ferris joined Hobart and Councilman Jim Rixner in calling for that action.

However, at the end of Monday's council meeting, Ferris said he didn't want to wait for an opinion, should one even be granted, and asked to revisit the issue Monday. It is the last item on the council's agenda.

"It is devoid of any legal meaning," Hobart said during his weekly press conference. "It is divisive to the community. ...It sets a precedent for abuses of future council actions."

1. In other words...
Ferris saw which way the wind was blowing and changed his mind about getting an opinion from the AG.

2. It's not devoid of symbolic meaning and support for gay rights.

4. Wait, what? This story is confusing.
How exactly is a legislative "resolution" which seeks to strip gays and lesbians of any right to marry a "same sex marriage resolution"???? :wtf:

Why does the media have to be so candy assed about gay marriage? Just SAY IT - he is not going to sign anti-gay marriage legislation in any form, period.
