For Gersh: 14 Years Is Not So Long Ago. |
|
This is the fourteenth anniversary
of my brother- in - laws death.
He died of AIDS related causes back when they weren’t handing out money and prizes to conservatives that wanted to see him dead.
Back when “it was only a gay disease.”
Back when...no one gave a damn.
Except, his family, who watched this handsome 38 year old man disappear into nothingness.
Back when, him, looking like a Greek God, could silence a room and take people’s breath away, Jesus, he was Paul Newman handsome, but that couldn’t stop the virus that took his last breath.
mrsbd and our family mourn him today.
They remember his partner, the blond haired, blue eyed, all American boy dentist, who died the year before and whose WASPY - shit family wouldn’t let Gersh go to their home to get his own belongings out, Lord, denial is an ugly word and so is hatred.
The Yortzite candle burns today, as it does every year at this time.
For Gersh:
Buffalo Bill 's by E. E. Cummings
Buffalo Bill 's defunct who used to ride a watersmooth-silver stallion and break onetwothreefourfive pigeonsjustlikethat
Jesus he was a handsome man and what i want to know is how do you like your blueeyed boy Mister Death

10. We all do that lived and lost in that era. If only...four more years |
|
if he could have held on, or if Raygun had not pretended there was no AIDS and had not cut funding for research... just four years later, I recall hearing that the protocol for treatment had increased quality of life and longevity. That delay under the conservative regime cost many good lives.
That's why it burned me up when I saw Rick Warren give shrub a "PEACE" medal, for doltson's work on AIDS, the repugs and the selfrighteous wing were in power when the epidemic broke out and chose silence and denial and cut research funding. A lot of suffering ensued, thanks to them.
