However, I think other people's reactions are dictated as much by our own comfort with PDAs as anything in their psychology.
My bf expects disapproval and exudes a sort of challenge by his body language. I am much more comfortable and rarely elicit any negative reactions.
The real problem comes when you get a group of people where some think they have to show disapproval in order to maintain some sort of standing with the rest of the group. Then regrettably predictable things can happen, such as arguments escalating into violence.

5. I really don't much care to see any PDA's.... |
|
And I have the BEST solution for when a couple (m/f, m/m, f/f) is making out in public:
I don't stare at them... Pretty advanced thinking, huh?

8. Am I the only person who actually likes seeing a bit of PDA? |
|
Really, I'd much rather see public displays of affection than public displays of animosity.

11. There's a difference between holding hands, or a brief affectionate hug/kiss |
|
And practically going Skinemax in plain sight, which is what every douchebag hetero hipster couple on subway platforms seems to feel entitled to.
Some of us would rather not see random people dry humping on the way home from work.

17. What is it that people immediately equate kissing with sex? |
|
Seriously, nobody I've seen can actually justify objecting to seeing people kiss in public on a rational basis, so they immediately run to the idea that anyone who doesn't meet their criteria for duration, or doesn't sufficiently attempt to hide their affection, is "dry-humping in public." :eyes:

18. Because kissing is a slippery slope |
|
If people are allowed to kiss in public then they want to grope (sp?) each other, then they want to dry hump hell if we let it get that far we might as well let them flat out have sex right in broad daylight on the street! And THAT'S not the worst of it...if we let st8 people do it teh gays will want to do it and THEN the zoophiles will want to do it and before you know it everyone and everything will be having sex anywhere he/she/it feels like having sex AND WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!!!! So the moral of this story is NO PDA OF ANY KIND! :sarcasm:

9. There's a difference between kissing and gnawing on each other |

A sweet quick kiss of affection is one thing but trying to chew someone else's tongue out of their face is another.
No matter the make up of the couple it's get a room if the display is to hot for public viewing.
edit: The couples in this piece were just fine.

I'm far from prudish but I really don't want to deal with couples of any orientation acting out some Real Sex bullshit for all the world to see. Some shit is just inappropriate in public.

13. I'd hate to say this ..... |
|
But it depends on the kind of kissing. But if it is heavy making out crap, I don't want gays doing it in public or straights doing it in public.
Save it for the bedroom or Falcon Studios.

I'm surprised by some of the reactions in Birmingham. Obviously you had some crazy people that were visibly shaken by the incident, but it was nice that a majority there even had open minds. I guess it is a true testament that times are changing.
