West Virgnia: Fake 'gay sniper' video targeting families, spreads paranoid, hate-filled victim meme

--by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Feb 16, 2009 at 10:45:00 AM EST

This is sick, and it shows the desperation of the Right to begin its 2010 campaign in West Virginia on the backs of LGBTs. They can't run on the economy, the war or just about anything else, so it's back to the homo strawman.

This is the stellar work of wv4marriage.com.

Christy Hardin Smith at FDL and WVBlue: Via WVBlue, I see that some out-of-state goober has decided the strategery for WV's Republican party in the 2010 election cycle is....*sound of trumpets*...SCARY GAY PEOPLE!

Complete with an offensive video (YouTube) that includes a gay sniper about the shoot at a family blowing bubbles. I kid you not. The sniper scope view aimed at the heterosexual family shows up at :58.

Beyond offensive.

Why target WV? Because they think we are too stupid to think for ourselves.

Dear GOP: the time for scare tactic politics is long passed. People in WV are scared enough about keeping their jobs, their crumbling infrastructure, and how we can move this nation forward.

Right now? Boogah boogah scary gays ooogah boogah is about as useless at putting food on the table and paying the bills as a strategery can get. ;

BTW, WVBlue notes that this effort by WV for Marriage is run by a guy in GA named Mark Montini.

Who is he, and who are his running buddies? Surf back in the Blend timeline to this post.

Montini is a GOP strategist and chief executive officer of CampaignSecrets.com, a firm that produced a ridiculous ad to attempts to "discredit" AARP in 2005 that suggested to org supported marriage marriage equality and opposed the Iraquagmire. There was one problem -- the ad contained a wedding photo of a gay couple to portray the Homosexual Agenda. Unfortunately M. Raymen and Steven P. Hansen had no idea their image was hijacked for GOP dirty tricks and sued USANext for $25 million in damages.

1. I grew up in WV..it is kind of ironic that I have been shot at by
maroons for being gay, aside from the bullying, beading harassment in gym class, having my clothes taken from the gym locker and bodily fluids put on them.
I also think its funny (ironic) that the supporters of prop 8 are all upset about their names being published for donating used to be the same folks that would throw beer bottles, names, rocks, you or at your house when you were found out and your name was published in the paper for being gay or were otherwise found out to be gay.

2. The reason I chose this title for the OP is NOT to give the impression
that this is happening.

But, as you said, gays are often the victims of this kind of hateful behavior. Not the perpetrators.

This is such a stupid desperate rw lie, yet...some extreme rw haters eat this crap up as if every morsel is true.

In the meantime on BoxTurtle Bulletin, three stories: 2 about young gay men murdered and a third about one of these rw wacko's who shot up a unitarian church and was fixing to go on a liberal killing rampage.

the irony of this ie is why I posted this.

The odd title was to avoid actually giving publicity to this lie, but to get it out there for anyone interested.

3. Here's Box Turtles take on this crazy lie and a real hate killers story

At least that’s the image being promoted in this wv4marriage.com video, by a group pushing for an anti-gay constitutional amendment for West Virginia. Over the course of five minutes, we learn that a married gay couple from California could move to West Virginia (no, seriously! That could totally happen!) and open up that state toward recognizing same sex marriages. Which is just a stones-throw away from having an unsuspecting bubble-blowing families sitting innocently on their all-American front porches being put in the crosshairs and blown away.

And to think that this irresponsible image went out right as Jim David Adkisson was sentenced for training his scope on a gay-friendly church. Images matter, especially in a well-armed state like West Virginia. This conjured image of a “homosexual threat” has clearly crossed the line.

By the way, we also learn that public schools no longer celebrate Father’s Day. Wait a minute. That couldn’t be because it’s celebrated on the third Sunday in June while school’s out, could it? Naah, it’s a much better story when it’s all the gays’ fault.

Knoxville Shooter’s Manifesto Made Public
Jim Burroway
February 14th, 2009
Jim David Adkisson, the gunman who opened fire in a Knoxville, Tennessee church killing two and injuring seven others, pleaded guilty last week to two counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his July 27, 2008 rampage at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Adkisson left a hand-written manifesto in his pickup truck in which, according to police, he expressed “hatred of the liberal movement, Liberals in general, as well as gays.” Despite public calls for police to release the text of the letter, police kept it private as the investigation continued...<snip>

That's the fracking point. These hateful nuts and the hate they spawn with these lies are causing the deaths of human beings.

I just posted about three handsome and full of life very young men, all of whom were murdered within the last year, one just this week, another victim was shot and died one year ago this Valentine's Day, another murdered with in the year, MURDERED for being gay.

These are just a few of the stories I have read about in the last few months and doesn't even begin to cover the beatings and physical assaults.

And they cry victim? :grr:

They are the fascist bastages. :puke:

7. This all so smells of desperation from the reichwing
the lies are becoming more fantastic daily.

I guess when all policies domestic and foreign are shown to be the laughing stock of the world, when you are out of power, when you crave power, when your dreams of a rw theocracy crumble...then, it's time to bring out the old tried and true homophobic paranoia to rally the base.

8. The sad thing about lies...
Is that when you tell them often enough some people are convinced it's the truth.

9. Oh, indeed. They count on it.
If you throw enough garbage at the wall, some will stick. Of course for the true fanatics, every word IS true.

Unacceptable to Mormon Eyes

Today the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News ran full page ads by an anti-gay activist group called America Forever. This is the same group that was wearing “Homosexuality is Anti-Species” t-shirts last week.
