GMU's Homecoming Queen is....a queen!!!
<snip>Work That Tiara, Boy! GMU's Choice of Homecoming Queen Sparks Campus Divide

Spend time with George Mason University senior Ryan Allen and it's clear why he's a Big Man on Campus. He wears size 12 pumps.

Allen is now -- as of halftime at Saturday's sold-out basketball game against Northeastern at the Patriot Center -- the school's homecoming queen. He received more votes than the two women who vied for the crown. </snip>

2. I think its great!
Ryan is a beautiful looking person. He deserved the win.

I only wish that it were more socially acceptable for males to wear skirts and dresses. I mean females can dress in men's clothing and they never get a nod. I have a female friend who has a flat top haircut and who wears a man's tux and eyebrows aren't raised.

The clothing "rules" can relax. I grew up in the 50s and 60s when it was against the rules for women to wear slacks or pants most places, especially school. No reason why a fellow shouldn't be able to wear a dress, skirt, or caftan--it can be a very nice look.

4. I'm still waiting for kilts to make it around to this coast.
I'd love to have a nice one, but for some reason they're more popular on the west coast than here on the east. :)

6. So set the trend!
I've worn Utilikils for years, and gotten a few of my friends wearing them, too.

9. Enjoy!
Their clothes are pricey, but consider: they use only US materials, employ unionized US workers who get a living wage, and the kilts are guaranteed never to wear out in the crotch or knees.

16. I have several of them
My favorites are a denim cut (now discontinued) and a Mocker. I wear them instead of shorts.

3. Just coming to post this
This is especially fabulous considering that a large portion of Mason's student busy consists of first- and second-generation immigrants, many from countries where being gay will get you beheaded or murdered in an alleyway.

7. Sweet....
It is good to see a Drag performer compete. It is sort of poking fun at pagents in general but Drag pagents are serious shit and no different than the all female counterpart.

In a way it helps to show that femininity is not s contained only the realm of genetic female.

Gender Expression is a spectrum.

19. I like GMU - they've moved into the elite of major universities
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 03:28 AM by autorank
I think that this is great. In addition, GMU will attract the best and brightest GBLT folks around.

Very cool, a smart move.

k*r, btw and an update. The Post article is silly. There's no 'divide' at GMU. Those objecting are at the etremis right wing think tanks associated with but not a true part of GMU. Scaife and some other reprehensibles pay big bucks to affiliate with GMU which gladly charges a huge overhead fee. Thare are not many of them. Fairfax County, location of GMU is uber tolerant and the under 40's there are not distinguishable from your average Marin County resident.

Something hopeful in a time of hopelessness. The youth of today and tomorrow will rid the earth of bigotry.
