I hate the Lounge.
Can I get some feedback from my wonderful GLBT friends? I just finished my website and would love some feedback on the appearance.

It's still a little light on content. I was trying to keep it short and simple; focusing on appearance.

Anyone? Anyone?

oh... it looks better with explorer. I can't figure out how to get it to center with firefox.

Thanks in advance...

1. If I were GLBT I would respond.
And I didn't see anything on the site that was GLBT specific.

2. Sorry...
Didn't think it "had" to be GLBT to post it in here... Thought being a member of the community would be enough...

Perhaps I was wrong.

11. Sorry
Saw it on the front page. Was intrigued by the title (as I'm not too fond of the lounge, myself).

Cheers

3. I'm using firefox, so my comments might not be applicable
I think it would be a little cleaner if you stayed consistent with font for each of the tabs. Under Home it looks like Times New Roman, but under the rest it looks like Ariel or something like that. The text runs below the light blue box on about, so it is kind of hard to read. I think that might be because I'm using firefox, not sure. The blue palate is pretty pleasing, but I wonder if you could throw a little more color in because that might better represent your work. Overall, it's easy to navigate and that's the most important aspect of any website.

4. Some feedback

Here is a screen shot - you have some font issues and alignment issues with your code. (Safari developers build 4)

As to style - its way to dark - you cant read the text. There needs to be some contrast - to many gradients and graphic effect. Remember less is more in web design.

also I recommend http://browsershots.org/ to see how a site looks in various platforms and browsers.

EDIT: I failed to mention when displaying a portfolio its best to use neutral colors (not blue - Id go with a white or gray).

6. Safari on a Mac - its 4.0 (developer here so its not out yet)
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 05:58 PM by FreeState
but its the most standards compliant browser available right now.

I noticed in your code your using tables - is there a reason your not using CSS?

Edited to add the alignment issues are not present in Firefox (Safari is now 10% of all browsers so its not huge but important if your showcasing design)

7. Yes...

I don't know it.

:hide:

I'm learning it right now. I just got the book the other day. I made this one using golive. It doesn't look anything like that on my PC... It looks great with explorer, and firefox looks good too, but it's not centered and the fonts are changed... but they're not the same anyway. Damn it. I can't believe I did that.

8. Hmmm... if your using it for a business I highly recommend hiring a designer
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 06:04 PM by FreeState
the code is awful - I took a quick look and Golive is using a mish mash of old and new code that will cause problems in the long run beyond browser computability. I was going to give you some easy alignment fixes however they wont work because while there is certainly CSS used there the layout is done 100% wrong from a website design point of view (tables should only be used to present data not structure a page etc).

Wish I could be of more help...

9. It's mostly a drag and drop thing...
You set up a canvas area and drag your components where you want them, set the spacing... Hmm... Guess I better get reading.

I do this for a living (I code by hand - CSS/HTML/PHP/Javascrip) There is also a forum on DU dedicated to Web programing and design: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=288

13. The layout is nice and the content looks interesting
but it's got one of my pet hates: low contrast between print and background. Six months ago I couldn't have read it at all and even now I have to highlight the top text to read it easily, blowing the overall design.

However, it still gets about an 8.5 on my Spiff-0-Meter.
