Repugs say: Civil Unions are Cwaazy! Loosey-Goosey!
Oh dear me.

No, no, we would never expect the repugs to wake on fine repug day and say: " Oh well, today I feel like justice and civil rights matter." :eyes:

Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele

Steele: Civil Unions Are “Crazy”

Jim Burroway
February 24th, 2009

Right wing radio host Mike Gallagher asked Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele, “Is this a time when Republicans ought to consider some sort of alternative to redefining marriage and maybe in the road, down the road to civil unions. Do you favor civil unions?”

Steele’s response:

GOP Chairman Michael Steele
No, no no. What would we do that for? What are you, crazy? No.Why would we backslide on a core, founding value of this country? I mean this isn’t something that you just kind of like, “Oh well, today I feel, you know, loosey-goosey on marriage.”

15. well I am unlawfully married
but I don't give a shit about the law, so we can just shorten that to married.

You can "redefine marriage" all you want, it doesn't change my marriage.

these people are real bigots, the real deal. I'm trying not to notice that he appears to be an ethnic minority whose culture of origin recently had to face down the EXACT same arguments about interracial marriage.

Woopsie, couldn't help myself. He's a fucking slimebag hypocrite too, but we knew that.

16. The amazing thing is that the repugs are swinging to the right even further
narrowing their base to a tight, nutty, Palin-Jindal core.

And WTF is he talking about core values and founding fathers BS? Core values are about equal justice for all, even if it takes a couple of hundred years fpr each group to arrive at that principle.

17. always this call to history.
Well we are history right now. I don't need to validate my intellect and heart by referring to "the glory days" to a book of magical "scripture", or the ancient wise elders.

We are wise. Some of us are old enough to be considered ancient (:P), and there are many more enlightened works of "scripture" than just the bible being spoon fed to us on Sundays and any time we need guidance which direction to wipe our asses.

The founding fathers do not live today. I live today. Whatever the founding fathers have to say is irrelevant except as a nod to a historical value system, and it has NO BEARING on our lives today.

The enduring ethos of our democracy is individual freedom. When one individual tells another they don't have freedom, who cares. The law is only meaningful if it applies to everyone equally, otherwise I do NOT consent to be ruled.

18. You hit on something here
this is the same group that always tauts the "strict interpretation" of the Constitution --when it suits them.

Then, when is comes to messing with it and adding DOMA's, oh that's fine they say. :eyes:
