Sweden Abolishes Law Banning Lesbian Use of IVF

The Swedish government has repealed a law barring lesbians from in vitro fertilization.

Until now, only women married or living with a man were entitled to undergo fertility treatments.

Although gay adoption is legal in Sweden, lesbians who wanted to give birth often went outside the country for fertility treatments or availed themselves of the services of friends to become pregnant.
