Tampa Gay Pride Ban Energizes Community
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/06/062105tamPride.htm

Nearly 800 Tampa-area residents crowded into a meeting Monday night to organize a campaign to repeal two county ordinances aimed at reducing LGBT visibility in the community.

Last week Hillsborough County commissioners voted to bar the county government from any acknowledgement of Gay Pride, and passed a second ordinance making it virtually impossible to repeal the first one. (story)

LGBT leaders called the voted a wakeup call to a community that had grown complacent.

3. you've got a great one up there
honestly, I don't know why those shmoe's in Tampa even give a damn about something that doesn't even intersect their life.

The whole idea that one person has the right to tell another person what they can and can't do with their body and life is so absurd and foreign to me, some days I can't believe I've actually woken up in America.

And if we were to turn it around - oh the outrage! Could you imagine if we campaigned to make heterosexual public displays of affection or statements of sexual orientation illegal? That's actually what they should do in Tampa - no holding hands, no kissy face, no air kissing, no nothing! But only if you're heterosexual.

They probably still wouldn't "get" it.

4. No, they'd just accuse you of
hating christians or some such thing. I'm hetero myself, but I still love pride (I love caribana too, even though I'm white. It's one of the great things about this city - no one cares where you are from, who you love, or what your faith is, but if you have a party everyone wants to come.
