Oregon Gay Unions & Civil Rights Bills Merged
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/06/062305oregon.htm

The Oregon Senate on Thursday combined two major gay rights bills into one. The legislation merges one bill which would legalize civil unions and one that would ban discrimination against gays and lesbians in housing and employment.

Backers of the two bills originally believed that if they had trouble with the civil unions legislation they could at least get the civil rights bill passed. But, with time running out in the current session, the only way to get the two issues to the floor for a vote was to combine them.

Senate Democratic Leader Kate Brown said Thursday that she believes there are enough votes in the Democrat-controlled Senate to pass the measure.
