Pennsylvania Lawmaker Seeks End To Gay Travel Ads
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/07/070805paTourism.htm

A Pennsylvania legislator is calling for an end to state funding to promote gay tourism in the state.

Two Philadelphia groups - Equality Forum and Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing - receive grants to mount ad campaigns geared at attracting LGBT tourists to the region.

But, Daryl D. Metcalfe says he intends to put a stop to it.

with all due respect Rep. Metcalfe, but fuck you

3. Pittsburgh is actively encouraging gay tourism...
I don't know this goofball Metcalfe, but it seems to indicate Phila groups being targeted...so come visit Pittsburgh.B-)

Here's an article I posted in the Pennsylvania forum a while back:

<snip>

Craig Melichar generates a brisk business for his North Side bed and breakfast by advertising primarily in gay travel Web sites. Now he has a new marketing tool, the Pittsburgh City NaviGaytor, a travel guide produced for the Greater Pittsburgh Convention & Visitors Bureau.

<snip>

Through market research, the bureau has identified gay male couples as its second-best potential buyers of travel packages. And Pennsylvania and Ohio, the top two geographic markets from which Pittsburgh draws visitors, are ranked 6th and 7th, respectively, for total gay and lesbian residents among all 50 states.

"The city might not think of itself as a gay mecca but it has a great gay community and night life," said Bill Gehrman of Altus Group, the Philadelphia company that published the Pittsburgh guide. Altus launched a similar guide in Philadelphia a year ago and has one in the works for San Diego.

5. Article should mention the fucktard is a Republican.....
But of course, anyone reading this article on 365gay.com probably has the common sense to realize that no Democrat would make such an assinine move.

Why would it not surprise me if we were to find out down the pike that this guy is a textbook example of a closet case.

6. Oh, but some Dems likely WOULD make a move. Don't forget Wellstone.
He voted FOR the DOMA. (and apologized once he realized he upset his considerable GLBT voting base. That's a good way to do politics; do what you want then apologize to your voters and they'll feel warm and fuzzy to continue to vote for you anyway.)

I know I will be flamed, but it's more than ironic that "liberal" Wellstone would be so tighty-righty in that particular vote; so much for GLBT folks being a part of the Democratic party.

7. I'm not 'gonna flame you.....
I understand your perspective and where you're coming from. And I suspect you are right...there probably ARE Dems who would sell-out and apologize later.

BUT, I think (hope) they are few and far between. In the GOP, it's business as usual.
