UCC Church Covered In Gay Hate Messages & Torched
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/07/071005uccFire.htm

Fire Saturday damaged a church in this Shenandoah Valley community and anti-gay graffiti was found on the outside of the church.

The exterior of St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ also included a message that United Church of Christ members were sinners.

The United Church of Christ endorsed a resolution July 4 endorsing same-sex marriage. The resolution was not binding on the denomination's 1.3 million members. (story)

3. It takes a true Christian to torch a church. (sic)
:eyes:

Blinded by their own hate. Jesus would either weep or hit them with a stick.

4. This is what nonreligious DUers don't seem to understand...
when they chide progressive christians, saying they should "fix" RW evangelicals.

As we've said, they view us in a WORSE light than even nonreligious people. A progressive christian trying to "fix" one of them is Quixotic.

9. they view anyone who challenges their "authority"
as deserving of aggression - both the physical and the emotional kind.

There is no fixing that - I think you have to have an inborn predisposition to fundamentalism; authoritarianism, a poorly developed temporal lobe, and a mean streak a mile wide.

If it wasn't fundamentalist religion they were beating everyone up with it would be some other form of fundamentalism they could use as an excuse for assuming "superiority". Nasty, dangerous humans.

I'm sure there are fundies who would rather just detach from the big scary modern world than do violence against the rest of the world - but these days it's hard to pick the good nazis out from the bad nazis.

10. I do understand it.
The apostate/heretic has always been despised more than the pagan/heathen. And of course, anyone who doesn't believe their version of things is the apostate/heretic.

And you won't find atheists blowing up churches. It's good christians that do that. We just turn them into museums.

8. well for some christians it is not so much about "right" and "wrong"
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 10:25 AM by sui generis
as about siding with power.

If it was a "sin" to not beat your wife twice a day whether she needed it or not, these people would still claim to be "right" and deface every other church that said that beating your wife was wrong.

What a bunch of loons -
