...Supporters of the biological explanation for homosexuality have the weight of science on their side. All of the major medical and psychological professional organizations — from the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association on down — state that sexuality is predominantly determined by chemical, hormonal and genetic conditions in the womb. They are clear in declaring that homosexuality is not a disease or a pathology that can be changed; most go a step further and strongly question whether it is even ethical for a medical professional to help clients try to change their sexuality.

Public opinion appears to be turning their way. In a series of polls by the Gallup organization over the last three decades, the percentage of Americans who agree that homosexuality is not a choice has slowly doubled, to nearly 40 percent. More striking is that acceptance of homosexual behavior is dramatically higher among younger Americans than among their parents: A 2001 survey by Zogby International and Hamilton College found that more than 80 percent of high school seniors nationwide believed that gay men and lesbians should be “accepted by society.”...

2. Christ, ain't that the truth

Funny, what I hear sometimes from the mouths of the devote.

I heard one say how much she didn't want her kids to know about sex. As if sex is some evil experience. I said, but someday you want them to have sex. Sex isn't bad. The look on her face said it all.

Yeah, science...it leads to sex. It might not even be the "right" (reich) kind of sex. That would be bad...wouldn't it?

I can't even figure out why these evangelical types CARE; they want the end of the world, don't they? Wouldn't rampant "gayness" help bring it into being? Just like the war, the end of the world, and that's what these f'ing monsters want. So, bring it on, right??

They just aren't very logical, these folks.

3. On my reading list ...

Ironically, I just picked up the book "Anything but Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth," by Wayne Besen last night.

Loved reading the first chapter about how "ex-gay" poster-boy and former drug-addled drag queen John Paulk was caught in a Washington, D.C., gay bar after appearing with his "ex-lesbian" wife on the cover of Newsweek!

All these ex-gay groups are just so incredibly full of bullshit! It's one thing to believe the "gays can change" line ... but to try to force change to bilk the gullible is harmful. How many people who have been through those brainwashing programs have gone on to commit suicide or live miserable lives because of the bullshit spread by the fundies?
