Melissa Etheridge--"Tuesday Morning" |
|
What are your feelings about this song and the lyrics? It gives me goosebumps. I feel "Tuesday Morning" is a riveting, underplayed, protest song. If you don't have this album, please check it out! I think it is Melissa's best work in years.
"Tuesday Morning," from the Melissa Etheridge album "Lucky":
10:03 on a Tuesday morning In the fall of an American dream A man is doing what he knows is right On flight 93 He loved his mom and he loved his dad He loved his home and he loved his man But on that bloody Tuesday morning He died an American
Now you cannot change this You can't erase this You can't pretend this is not the truth
Even though he could not marry Or teach your children in our schools Because who he wants to love Is breaking your God's rules He stood up on a Tuesday morning In the terror he was brave And he made his choice And without a doubt A hundred lives he must have saved
And the things you might take for granted Your inalienable rights Some might choose to deny him Even though he gave his life Can you live with yourself in the land of the free And make him less of a hero than the other three Well it might begin to change ya In a field in Pennsylvania
Stand up America Hear the bell now as it tolls Wake up America It's Tuesday morning Come on lets roll

Those lyrics are very moving, I will definitely have to get her new album. I'm a huge fan of her older stuff and I'm glad to see she's still going strong, and may she beat that breast cancer dead!

3. Even better when you hear it |

It's one of my favorite songs on the cd. I just love the power behind the lines "Can you live with yourself in the land of the free And make him less of a hero than the other three." :loveya:

5. My Beloved used to be my favorite that she did, but this just replaced it |
|
is it based on real issues from 9/11? I never heard anything about that.

One of the first heroes of 9-11 was a big strapping gay man who I believe said the 'let's roll' line and worked with 3 other straight men to bring the plane down. The man's mom was on talk shows talking about the last call from her son and how much he loved his niece, etc. Then when it was discovered he was gay, you never heard about him again... only the married men who took the plane down.

7. Yeah, I noticed that sudden silence, too... he was one of the first heroic |

faces to emerge after the tragedy. Really moving, but once the 'let's roll' guy (another of the passengers) with the perfect family was recognized we never heard about this guy again. Thanks, Melissa!
