Yesterday the word started spreading that Kansas City and the local FOX affiliate were bringing a Life Changers Conference to the city later this month. The city had, in fact, contributed fund to help sponsor the event. In addition to a variety of community services, the event was also slated to play host to some religious events ... including "Prophet" (or should that be "Profit") Todd Hall, a virulently homophobic minister from Memphis. (You can catch one of his rants on YouTube at

Anyway, to make a long story short, in less than 24 hours the LGBT community and allies rallied to contact the city council about the event. The result of all those phone calls and e-mails?
City pulls funds for Life Changers Conference
City officials late Thursday said they would pull city support ($5,000) for the Life Changers Conference, a spiritual conference set for Bartle Hall next July 15-19.
The reason: City funds shouldn't support a religious event.
But the event sparked other controversy earlier in the day when Council member Deb Hermann pointed to it as featuring a speaker who would offend the gay and lesbian community. The council then passed a resolution that condemned hateful, hurtful and harmful speech. It also recognized the gay and lesbian community.
