Review: Pop Star Wannabe Kim Petras Releases New Music. Ouch.
Pop Star Wannabe Kim Petras Releases New Music. Ouch.

After watching her video, the nicest thing I have to say is that she's got nice hair. And her dancing made me laugh...but at her, so she still loses.

Kim Petras first made headlines when people started reporting about her being "the world's youngest transsexual." Petras has been taking hormones since the age of 12 and identifying as a girl since she was two. The German underwent gender reassignment surgery last year when she turned 16. Petras has now set her eyes on pop stardom, and oh boy, does she ever have a ways to go...

She's super-cute and all, and I think it's admirable that she's so sure of who she is and I think it's incredible that her parents have been so supportive... But sweet Jesus, singing is not the route she should take. She recently released the video for her single "Die For You," and after watching it, I have no desire to listen to any of her other music. She's cute and blonde, though, so she's got that going for her at least.

(Personally I don't find the song too bad. Not my kind of music, personally, but the song is still OK.)

1. Maybe she can act, or do commercials, or have a talk show.
Lots of people with no talent go the singing route. Seems to me like a lot of them hit the top forty too!!!!

7. That's unkind. This girl is actually attractive.
And probably craps out more intelligence than Paris will ever have.

10. No apology necessary, public or private...
I did not think the song was all that bad. Yes, she needs to polish her work, but she's not any worse than some of the other singers out there. (Though I admit that she really needs a good choreographer!)

I wish her the best. The reviews on Youtube were mixed. Some loved it. Some hated it. Some were crude and rude because she's transgender.

As for the apology...no need. I thought the review was mean spirited, too. I'm just sorry that I did not make it more clear that the thoughts were not mine.

6. Her songwriter needs to be taken out and shot.
Her voice sounds fine, but the song itself is all over the map in terms of both style and sound.

8. Wow....folks expect a lot from Teen pop singers....
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 10:01 AM by LeftHander
To me she sings not unlike any other teen pop singer...with two differences she is from Germany and Europe always did have a sort of weird (a bit schlocky) take on pop music and she is a post-op transsexual.

To make music videos and record music at that age there is not a lot of direct input by the singer other than looking pretty and singing or dancing when told to. If you don't like her act then blame the producers not the kid, or why not blame your age because I bet it will play well to European teens. Why would you want to be critical of a teen pop singer destined for the TigerBeat back pages. (highly doubt the publishers would risk that) The right wingers fundies would rally and Republicans in Congress would write some crazy ass law....

Under it all the music industry is simply not ready or capable of accepting a post-op transsexual on her merits. Everything she will do will be seen through the "tranny" curiosity glasses that most people wear and as a result she will be excluded from many regular channels accessible by non-trans pop singers.

that the top "related video" that popped up was "squirrel stuck in yogurt cup."
