Pentecostal Evangelists Plan To Surround Charlotte Pride - But not to harass, they claim
Pentecostal Evangelists Plan To Surround Charlotte Pride

Pride celebrations in Charlotte, North Carolina are scheduled for this weekend, July 25.

As an added treat for everyone, Pentecostal preachers Lou Engle and Michael Brown have announced plans to “surround” the Pride events with a hoped-for thousand flock members in order to “reach out to gays and lesbians with the compassion of Jesus.”

<snip>

After all, there are many churches that genuinely do reach out to the LGBT community in love and equality. If I were a member of such I church, I would be pretty sick to death by now of the loonbats who have turned “Christian tolerance” into something you have to put quotation marks around half the time.

<snip>

Engle and Brown say they will not “harass or intimidate” anyone – unless you count the part where they plan to surround the entire park with people in T-shirts reading “God Has a Better Way.”

<snip>

A thorough story by the Box Turtle Bulletin reports that the last time Brown and his friends showed up at Charlotte Pride, many participants felt intimidated.

And while Brown and Engle claim their group will simply be praying and singing, last time the praying happened through a powerful sound system.

Brown and Engle are openly hoping that the Charlotte Pride protest will have “a ripple effect around the nation” and begin the process of turning back gay rights.

1. Idiots
Oh well, I guess they have the right to be there. Why do they do this? It doesn't help -- it doesn't "convert" anyone. What's the point except to make themselves look ignorant.

Hope they enjoy the music, 'cause the speakers will be blasting to drown them out.

2. Looks like the LGBT community could do a little outreach as well
1. quote from "We Were Soldiers Once" ... If they are close enough to kill us, we are close enough to kill them
2. If 1K whackos show up, the LGBT needs 100K to show up

3. Do they never tire of the hatred?
What sort of horrible people are these? Why do other churches not speak out against them?

8. They are fueling their persecution complex - they dont care that its them thats bring it on
They know if they stopped terrorizing and bullying minorities they could not claim to their being "persecuted for the truth". Church's like this preach they are being persecuted as evidence of their truth - its sick.

4.  I'm not interested in Jesus,
I don't need to be saved by Jesus and if God has a better way He obviously hasn't revealed it to us yet. Why can't these wackadoodles just practice their ridiculous faith among themselves and leave the rest of us alone?

5. Here at DU Christians are painted with a broad brush,
where a Christian is a Christian is a Christian. Any and every Christian group or individual is held up to represent all Christians and by association the Christian god. There are good and bad Christians just as there are good and bad of any other group. They are not all the same flavor.

7. Obviously there are lots of good people...
who identify as Christian. But I have little doubt that if they weren't Christian they'd still be good people. Christianity itself is, to use the Biblical term, an abomination. IMHO of course.

9. Kudos for adding the "IMHO". So often posts here are made as if they came from the mouth of god,
or whatever. If I were a Christian I would not want to be place in the position of representing all Christians any more than someone who is GLBT should be expected to represent all GLBT.

10. unless they show up and turn the tables
on the haters, the so called "good Christians" are no good to anyone. All we need is for good men to do nothing for evil to flourish

6. Forwarded to Rachel.
Maybe she can "connect" it to the C street crazies. Not that they're actually connected, except in an idealogical way.

12. Not to harass or intimidate?
What if a bunch of LGBT people showed up outside their church wearing T-shirts with anti-Christian slogans? Would they consider that a display of love or would they run to call the police because they were being "persecuted". Why can they never understand that just because you call your hatred "love" and say that your god is the one who told you to harm someone it doesn't change the nature of the pain you're inflicting.

15. if these collective ass-hats think lgbtiq people don't learn -- they have another thing
coming -- oh they might get away with it another pride weekend -- but not more than that.

this -- or the next time -- they will find themselves a wash in music and queens they never dreamed of.

we do it our way -- and it will be FABulous.
