Do you find it degrading that states think in terms of money re: gay marriage?
Yes, I want to be married to Paul. Yes, I'm extremely grateful that several states have decided to allow us to have that opportunity.

But...

When I read about it, I seldom see people saying it was the right thing to do. Usually I see studies about the money they'll make from gay couples.

So, yes, I am grateful, but I'm also rather leery about being seen as a quick fix to the economy of these states. I want to be seen as a human being being given the same opportunities as others to be with the person that I love.

(Apologies in advance for the bitchy attitude. It's a holdover from work last night!)

1. fuck states rights.
period.

The very idea that states should have the right to decide for the poor helpless gay peoples what's best for them but not for the fine upstanding mixed gender peoples whose rights are federally protected is Rosa Parks material.

bitchy hell garl, I got a crick in my back, a runny nose and smelly feet and I'm feeling meaner than a bobcat wit no ass hole.

2. Have any states actually cited that as a reason?
Sure, people talk about economics, but I can't think of a single state where that's actually been seriously suggested as a reason it was done.

3. In Calif it is often cited
,Not the only reason mind you, but the numbers are out there. I've seen them for other states too,

5. I'm not talking about references made to the economic value...
I know there are articles studying it and so forth. I'm talking about lawmakers suggesting that as a serious reason to change the law. People might mention that healthcare reform would be good for small hospitals, but that's not the main reason for doing it.

4. No, I find it degrading (and stupid) when cons oppose gay marriage because it will cost money
"Social security, medicare, and pension plans blah blah blah already on the skids, and these people want to add to that. It's all about the benefits and none of the responsibilities.... blah blah blah."

When in fact, gay couples, who are much less likely to have a nonworking spouse, are both paying into the system, mostly paying school taxes they will never consume., aren't known for needing a lot of policing if left alone, etc...

6. I find the reluctance to allow it degrading.
The rest is just feces on the cake.

7. I do, but at the same time, it seems to be a quasi-legitimate reason to support SSM among those
who are otherwise backasswards and bigoted, since to most of them, "money trumps peace", the most important thing in life is to make a quick buck. :eyes: , I know, but if it works, whatever.

8. Not Really. I'm At the Point Where I'm So Contemptuous Of Anti-Gay Laws and Places
That nothing they do can annoy me further. I don't care on what terms I get my rights; I just want them. But whatever reason they give them to me, whether it's to help their economy or because they're high court said they had to, or because it's the right thing to do, one thing will be constant. I will always be pissed off that it took so long.
