The Federal Government and the State of Indiana recognize my marriage.
We went to Iowa to get married. We came home to Indiana and went to the Social Security Office. We both had our names changed and will be receiving our new Social Security Card about a week from today. The Social Security Office gave us a receipt showing proof of our name change. The only documentation the Social Security Office wanted was our Marriage license and our Indiana Drivers licenses.
Then we were off to the BMV. The only documentation the state of Indiana wanted was our Marriage license and the proof of our name change from the Social Security Office. We now both have new drivers licences with our new married names.
Off to the Bank, name changed no problem.
My spouse works for DHS/TSA. She met with the HR Specialist and will be having a new photo done for her new Government ID with her new married name. She also got the paper work for adding me onto her Health Insurance. The U.S. OPM has a form that states the blah blah blah about DOMA. So my honey calls Blue Cross Blue Shield. The tell her that the do not cover domestic partners. So my honey tells them we are MARRIED! She also tells them that the Department of Homeland Security, SSI and Indiana BMV accepted our license as proof for name changes. Blue Cross Blue Shield said well in that case fill out the form and fax it over!!!!!!!!
Seriously, how the fuck can they all recognize our Marriage license as proof for legally changing our names and NOT recognize that the license says we are legally MARRIED?

1. I think you have established some VERY significant precedent there.
Every time another agency recognizes what is obviously a legal status, it becomes more and more valid. Good for you folks!
