Nightclub Guard Killed In Hit-And-Run - Man Struck In Midtown Sacramento

A nightclub guard was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday in midtown Sacramento, police said.

Leroy Fisher, 64, was working outside of Badlands Dance Club at 20th and K streets when he was hit by a vehicle at about 1 a.m., authorities said.

I knew this guy, we both did; we know his kids and his widow. A recent thread asked if America is becoming more mean & nasty, you had better bet your life on it how could it be otherwise once a society has crossed The River Styx - don't bother answering...

In recent months friends of ours have been mugged & robbed several times black eyes broken ribs, rent money stolen; a woman behind a bar in the district was raped and it was pooh-poohed by members of the community as though she was just a lesbian and shouldn't have gone back there; a pre-op friend of ours was beaten down to the ground by four guys that were only then understood as having been casing the action from four seemingly disparate points of predation like drawing a bead on people causing ours and another table to jump and dive in separating they were later comp't drinks to keep the peace but you know what?

There is no peace, that squalid beat keeps going on: a young bar-back friend of ours was pushed on his ass in the bar for finding a $20 bill on the floor that another felt should be his; our morning bartender had a gun pulled on him and stuck into his face last week when opening up over the bar offering bottled water instead of in a glass w/ice that he related as a homeless guy but hubby told him that seemed unlikely an opinio that was discounted out-of-hand; two mornings ago 'a guy' walked into another in the morning opening up and pulled a scatter-gun and robbed that dude right then & there; the stories we hear back regarding the maintainance of decorum inside a wild west scene that will have nothing to do with it are staggeringly violent & predatory

Sacramento Bar-Goers Beware

An increase in the number of reported drugging and date-robberies has occurred in recent months. Alleged victims are reporting waking with a strange groggy feeling, not remembering the night before, finding wallets emptied of cash, cards, and often other household items of value missing.

The usual drugs associated with date-rape type events are Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB or G), Rohypnolis (Roofies), and less commonly Ketamine hydrochloride (K, Special K.) All of these drugs have or had legitimate uses in controlled and prescribed conditions however when combined with alcohol they may become powerful and dangerous sedative leaving the victims brain unable to save and process short-term memory into long-term memory among other and possibly more deadly effects. The victim often wakes up 6-24 hours later with no memory of the night before.

Don’t carry large quantities of cash or credit cards in your wallet, brag about the Picasso hanging in your living room, accept drinks from strangers unless you actually see the bartender pour/open it, or leave your drink out of your view even for a few seconds.

If someone buys you a drink and you feel socially awkward about turning down the cocktail try getting the attention of a friend or bartender and commenting in your own style “What a nice guy, he bought me a drink!” so there will be other people you know are aware of who is buying you drinks. Leaving a trail of witnesses may discourage a criminal from following through with a robbery or actually drugging you in the first place.

Nightclub Guard Killed In Hit-And-Run

The Senior Security Guard at The Depot/Badlands, Leroy Fisher, was killed in the back parking lot behind the bars last night. In remembrance, there will be a candlelight vigil tonight at 7 pm at 20th and K and flowers and candles can be placed on the grassy knoll on the side of The Depot on 20th Street.

There will be donation buckets to help aid Leroy's family with the funeral services, this is a chance for our community to pull together and show how much love and support we have to give.

Hate Crimes in Sacramento City and County, California

I received this as email from a local activist. It has some additional information about a killing that occured the weekend before the 4th of July. I thought GLBT DUers might be interested in the particular source of increasing homophobia that has arisen in the Sacramento area.

"A young man is dead, the victim of hate and intolerance.

After many years of relative safety in the Sacramento area, the last several have seen virulent protest from radical fundamentalists including many Slavic church groups. Over the 4th of July weekend, the homophobic hatred turned deadly. Satendar Singh was killed in an attack at Lake Natomas on Sunday by a group of Russian-speaking men after they perceived him as gay. Satendar was a recent immigrant to America from Fiji, having won a lottery for a green card. Satendar earned the nickname "The Lucky One" among his family and friends.

1. Uh, oh. Russians.

Believe it or not, we recently had trouble with a severely homophobic Russian/American on a gun forum. All he wanted to do was complain about the problems caused by gays. He is a real piece of work. He wanted everybody to know the Russian govt is finally dealing with the gays. Not pretty.

2. Sacramento has has a lot of problems with the Russian community.

From men basically honor-killing ex-wives and their families to violence against the LGBT community. It was going on ten years ago when I lived there.

from what I can see it comes from the policy of allowing fundie churches to sponsor scads of fundie Russians for immigration. As a result, many of the newly-established Russians on the west coast are intolerant religious freaks. I certainly don't think Russians in and of themselves are worse than other people, but the churches self-selection of the most rabid and intolerant (ie: faithful and tithing) combined with a refusal to acclimate to the realities of America outside of their churches and religious circles has made the Russian immigrant communities in some towns rather scary.

Just my humble opinion based on observation.

3. I lived in Sacamento for 14 years and only met one Russian. I understand the

Slavic fundamentalists, now, have also overtaken American River College. My all-time favorite school. What a shame!!!!

he had just told a local news guy that he didn't want his spirit in his camera turning then to me saying in front of both him and all within ear-shot that I could snap his profile only ~ peace!
