I met Sean Kennedy's mother at Pride yesterday
Edited on Sun Sep-27-09 04:35 PM by dsc
Sean is the college student killed outside a South Carolina bar whose killer is serving a 3 year sentence. I wish I could say I was eloquent upon meeting her, but I wasn't. I could only get out "I am sorry for your loss." She was handing out sunflower seeds to plant in memory of hate crime victims. Since I am the worlds worst garderner I am going to give these to a coworker who is a good gardner. I can't imagine her courage, losing a child and still going to an event like pride which couldn't help but remind her of his life.

3. To you, perhaps...
To her it most likely meant the world to know that she does not grieve alone.

4. I am sure she
felt the range of your emotions. How you said the words didn't matter. IMO. When I read your post my eyes filled with tears. Whether you realize it or not you gave her great comfort.:applause:

6. Sunflowers are easy to grow.
Just plant them in the sun.

8. You don't have to be eloquent, just kind which you were
We aren't all good in those situations but we can all do our best to show kindness and support. Hopefully she is getting help from the Matthew Shepard foundation.
