Meredith Baxter comes out - late-in-life self-discovery as a lesbian.
Good for her! Shout out to Meredith! :hi: I always liked her. Now I know why - she was always a kindred spirit. :)

>>For seven years, actress Meredith Baxter has been hiding a secret.

Now Baxter, who played the devoted hippie mom constantly butting heads with her conservative kids on “Family Ties,” is making a public admission.

“I am a lesbian and it was a later-in-life recognition,” she told Matt Lauer on TODAY. “Some people would say, well, you’re living a lie and, you know, the truth is — not at all. This has only been for the past seven years.” <<

4. So, I'm reading this headline, and I realize how far the GLBT community has come.
The LA Times headline is:

"'Family Ties' mom Meredith Baxter is a lesbian"

Long ago, that would have been scandalous; today, it just seems merely a little interesting, but not a big deal.

6. She looks so happy.
Definitely one of my favorite tv moms.

I do have to admit, when I heard that an 80's sitcom mom had come out as a lesbian,
I was really hoping it was Joanna Kerns so Kirk Cameron's head would explode.

7. Way to go, Meredith!!
Good for her! Maybe this will encourage others who have struggled with identity to accept themselves for the wonderful beings they are. For me, it was more a later in life admission than a later in life discovery. May Meredith enjoy the same happiness and peace of mind that I have enjoyed since I accepted myself for who I am. Gay and proud.
