Brian Brown, NOM: DC residents have a "God-given right" to vote on marriage
"This battle is not over. DC politicians are blocking the right of people to vote on marriage. Voters in 31 other states have already exercised their right to vote on this issue. It is ironic that some politicians actively campaign demanding DC voting rights and yet they are conspiring to deny those same citizens the right to vote on the definition of marriage," said Brian Brown.

“We will not give up on D.C. The people of D.C. have the right to vote for marriage; we will fight for their rights and we will win. NOM will be proud to fight alongside Bishop Harry Jackson to make sure politicians hear the people's voice loud and clear: don't mess with marriage. We will fight in Congress. We will fight through the courts to get this to the people of D.C. who have a God-given right to vote for marriage and Charter-given right to overturn the council's decision. We are confident marriage will win in the end in D.C. as it has in Maine and 30 other states."

1. A "right" to deny other people rights?
These people are so stupid they don't see the contradiction.

2. Every gay person and friend in DC should know what this man looks like. He should be on posters.

Voters in 31 other states have exercised a right to vote to remove other peoples equal rights.

5. It's kind of like an imaginary friend...
...who hates you but is deeply concerned with what you do in bed and who expects obedience to his idiotic rules.

4. No they don't.
First of all as a point of fact, there are no god-given rights because there is no god. So that's bullshit. Second, voting is a procedural mechanism granted by statute or state Constitutions. It is not all-inclusive and usually only applies to electing public officials. We do not vote on hetro marriage rights. We do not vote on matters that are not of public concern like who we marry or how we conduct our personal lives. So while in some states people have a legal right to make others unhappy for no reason, there is nothing remotely moral or ethical about voting to interfer in private matters of others that do not affect the voter.

6. I love how these folks play with the words "right" and "privilege"...
They love to insist that marriage is a privilege- not a right. But yet, they somehow have the God-given right to vote for marriage. Not that it surprises me or anything.
