GLAAD Urges Community to Contact ABC Over Cancellation of Adam Lambert’s Performances
GLAAD Urges Community to Contact ABC Over Cancellation
of Adam Lambert’s Performances

“We appreciate ABC’s commitment to gay and transgender inclusion in other programming,” said Jarrett Barrios, President of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. “However, let us be clear that GLAAD remains steadfast in our assertion that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard by ABC as an openly gay performer. We do not support ABC cancelling Adam Lambert’s past and future performances. We urge the community to reach out to ABC and express their concerns that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard.”

1. Update: Adam Lambert to appear on ABC's The View on December 10th
***The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which in the last two days has issued three statements regarding its position on this issue has now issued a statement from its president, Jarrett Barrios: "ABC has taken a step towards fairness by inviting Adam Lambert to perform on The View." GLAAD has been advocating against the double standards that have been applied to Lambert as an openly gay performer. We thank community members and allies for voicing their concerns with ABC so that entertainers like Adam have the opportunity to be broadcast into living rooms across America."***

2. I'm glad that everyone involved with this have calmed down.
Even Adam Lambert admits that his performance might not have been a good judgment call, considering it was his post-Idol national debut. I love Adam but even I kind of cringed during it. I really wanted this to be perfect for him and a few things didn't go well. He didn't sing well, he fell and I just knew that there would be too much controversy. But it was the singing that really bothered me. He has a great voice. What is it about sound systems that can make a great singer sound awful and an awful singer (like Britney Spears) sound great? No wonder there is so much lip syncing.

The folks at ABC are hypocrites. They promoted their show stating that Adam would do a performance that was outrageous. And he did. And they didn't stand up for him when he lived up to their hype. I think that is deplorable.

Adam Lambert's new CD, For Your Entertainment, is actually quite good. I hope he can now get on with his new career and I hope he has a lot of success. I don't know if he wants to be a role model but I think he just might make a great one.
