According to the Bible, King Solomon had 700 wives.
And he was hailed as "the wisest man in the world". All I'm wanting is ONE wife. Why am I not allowed that?

1. Welcome to DU Terra Alta
I've been happily married for almost 36 years but 700 wives sounds like way too high maintenance for me.

I hope that one day you are "allowed."

2. And they all got their periods at the same time
Sorry. I couldn't resist that thought even though it had nothing to do with your point.

3. If he needed 700 pieces of human property to prop up his huge ego
he couldn't have been much of a man, not really, and certainly not very wise. A wise man would have the insight to know that.

I hope you are able to marry soon. It's an idea whose time has come.

FWIW, I wish the early Christians had had the wits to publish the bible as two separate texts, one a curiosity full of old stories and legends, the other as their basic religious text but without all the unnecessary baggage from Paul and Revelations. It would have been nice to include Thomas, but he didn't serve Empire all that well.

4. We are working on this
Seems like mostly setbacks lately, though.

I've been married 31 years. It hasn't all been easy. The first 30 years were pretty tough.

5. I wish you could. There are states where it is possible,
but I understand your desire to stay in your own state. I fear that your state will not be one of the early adopters, though. In fact, I think it will take a Supreme Court decision.

My best wishes to you!

13. There is no marriage equality available in the US, not at all
because all of the important rights are at the Federal level. So it is a stretch to say it is possible in some states, as that "married couple" will be filing as Singles on their Federal Income Tax and so on. In my State if you have a civil union, you have to do an extra tax form, one that pretends the Feds are not bigots. That sort of form is called an 'as if' form. As if. As if you were really married.
Just saying, half a plate is not a dinner. It just is not. I know your heart is in the right place, but telling people equality is available when it simply is not might serve yourself, but it serves no one else. We know what is available. And it is not equality. It is 'as if'.
As if.

9. I'd bet it's that.
Or possibly she's from Aspen. :P But I suspect it's Asperger's.

I just love the intolerance of those who judge us. Sadly, it's just Heteros, as a Lesbian girl I know through a friend was very mean-spirited about Trans people yesterday and I nearly spat at her, and said, and your being a Lesbian is acceptable, but being Trans is not? It got slightly ugly, so we ended the convo when she said she was 'conservative and not a liberal', implying those Trans are weird or unrighteous or whatever. Just goes to show, there's a lot of ignorance out there.

I am quite hopeful that full rights for all GLBT people will happen in the USA in my lifetime. For those who judge, and are believers in Jesus, I say, he said, "whosoever believes"!

Thanks for the really good post!

15. The whole bible is filled with Hypocrisy!
I wonder what the first version was like? Probably so explicit that it makes hardcore porn or even "Caligula" look like G-rated family entertainment.

On a side note, if you went to a bible class as a kid. They never mention Lot getting banged by his own daughters while drunk.

16. Thanks everyone!
I really enjoy it here! I can't tell you how much it means to me to be able to come to a place where I am accepted as who I am accepted for who I am and what I am! I live in the "Bible belt" and most people around here consider me on the same level as a murder or a rapist :( I wish people here were more tolerant but I think that attitude is changing.
Someone asked what "Aspie" meant... yes it does mean Asperger's Syndrome, although I've never been officially diagnosed(costs too much to get tested and my insurance won't cover it) I've taken 3 different online tests that seem to have confirmed it.
Have a great day everyone! :)

17. He also had 300 concubines
or basically, sex slaves.

So he had 1000 women, in other words (as far as I know, none of the concubines were male).

But the right wingers would still probably be fine with this, more than they would his father David being bisexual.
